As much as you may think this blog is about me, it’s actually all about you. See, God has given me this passion for writing and, depending on your opinion, a talent for it too. But He didn’t give it to me for me. He gave me the passion and talent for you. Yeah, YOU!
And you have passions, talents, skills, and gifts that were given to you for someone else too. God doesn’t give us these things for ourselves. He gives them to us to use for His purpose and glory in order to further the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Special Delivery Analogy
God is the post office. We are merely the postage workers carrying packages that need to be delivered. It’s a matter of us figuring out where those packages are to be delivered. When we realize a talent or passion we have, we must ask God, “Who’s this for?” Because it’s not actually for you. Again, you are only the mailman.
And the same goes for experiences. I will be filling this website with posts about my experiences — my ups and downs and upside downs, my twists and turns and back and forths — but all of those experiences will be for you. God wants us to share our experiences so that others may know they are not alone, or that they can also get through a situation.
Instead of feeling despair through a valley, we should be thinking, “God, who is this experience going to help later?” “God, who should I be sharing this with?” And maybe, even though this may be difficult to do during the actual valley, we should be saying, “God, thank you for giving me this time of suffering and sorrow so that once I’m out of the valley I can help others who have fallen into the darkness.”
Our seasons of sorrow can be used by God to help others through theirs. Our times in the valley can help others see they are not alone. And we can prove to others that the valley and the season of sorrow is not the ending. We climbed the mountain and saw the beauty of the mountain top once again. We transitioned back into seasons of joy. And they can too.
Being the mailman is all about giving. God wants us to give our passions, talents, and experiences to others. When it becomes less about us and more about them, everything changes.
“As soon as I stopped asking what was in it for me and began asking what I was meant to give, things began to improve, beginning with my attitude. I continue to grow and be greatly strengthened in my relationship with God one-on-one and to seek out where I can serve those around me.” – Lady in Waiting
It reminds me of a TobyMac song. If you know me pretty well, you know I’m a pretty big TMac fan. Anyways, the song is called “Stories.” Here’s the lyrics to the chorus:
We’ve been down to the bottom
Stories we got ’em, when we hit rock bottom
If you been there put your hands in the air
To let the lost know that someone cares
Cause we’ve been down to the bottom
Stories we’ve got ’em, when we hit rock bottom
If you been there put your hands in the air
And let somebody know that the Most High cares
Whenever I hear this song, I picture a stadium full of people with their hands in the air, testifying that they’ve been down to the bottom, they’ve been in the valley, they’ve had seasons of suffering and sorrow, they know what it’s like and have made it out to the other side. And I picture lonely, suffering souls witnessing these hands raising all around them and finally realizing they are not alone. And there is a way out of the valley. There are new seasons coming. There is a God who loves them. And people who care.
That’s what this life is about, in my opinion at least. Sharing our stories, our experiences, our talents, our passions. Connecting with others. Delivering God’s packages.
