The other night, I was really feeling the need for some TobyMac music. I found his latest CD in my car and started to jam. Then the song “Steal My Show” came on. I had heard the song tons of times when I first bought the CD and listened to it over and over to learn every lyric. As I listened this time, I felt the need to share it.
In “Steal My Show,” TobyMac talks about how he’s about to perform at a concert. He says what the concert really needs is God — more than himself, lights, smoke, or even rocking music. In the song, he asks God to steal his show. He says to God, “If you have something to say, go on and take it away.” TobyMac says he’ll step out of the way and give God center stage.
Read the lyrics below:
If you wanna steal my show, I’ll sit back and watch you go
If you got somethin’ to say, go on and take it away
Need you to steal my show, can’t wait to watch you go
So take it away
So now the crowd is hype that you showed up tonight
Anticipatin’, cravin’, somethin’ more than smoke and lights
So I’ll step out the way, I’ll give you center stage
Alright, spotlight give ‘em what they came for
Are We Giving God the Spotlight?
I really love this song. I feel like it’s the theme song for this blog. If God has something to say, I really want Him to take it away — speak through me onto your computer screen.
I want this blog to be more about Him than about me. I like sharing with you about my life — showing you pictures and telling you about my joys — but when it all comes down to it, the purpose of this blog is to let God be in the spotlight. Because like the song says, when God arrives, our hearts collide and beat in the same time. We connect in a way we can’t otherwise.
At the end of the song, TobyMac says, “No matter who we are, no matter what we do, every day we can choose to say if you wanna steal my show, I’ll sit back and watch you go …”
So whether you are a famous music artist, an aspiring writer or (add in who you are here), you can ask God to steal your show. You can let Him have control of your life. You can let Him use you in unimaginable ways no matter what you do in life, who you are, or what stage of like you’re in. It’s just a matter of whether you are willing to let Him have the spotlight.
