There was one main part of my wedding that made it so special and so beautiful — and no, I’m not talking about the white dress.
My Wedding: How We Included Prayer
One of the things I loved most about my wedding was how it was wrapped in prayer. Including God in our wedding planning, wedding day, and marriage was so important to me. I loved how so many people helped me include Him.
Before we began decorating the day before the wedding, everyone came together to pray in a circle. We prayed for the day to go smoothly, the next day to go smoothly, and for our marriage to be blessed. Also, that evening, we prayed before the rehearsal and before the rehearsal dinner.
Travis and I prayed together that night after giving each other our gifts. After leaving Travis, not to see him again until I walked down the aisle, one of my bridesmaids prayed with me outside when we got home.
The morning of our wedding, I had a special breakfast with my bridesmaids and the women of my family. At the end of the breakfast, all the women I’m closest to laid their hands on me and prayed over me.
Before our guests arrived, Travis and I came together on our wedding day to pray together. I didn’t want him to see me until I walked down the aisle, so we kept a divider between us. We were still able to hold hands, pray together and yes, maybe get a little emotional!
Talk about a lot of prayer, right? But the praying hasn’t stopped…
One of the most important things you can do in your marriage is pray together. Prayer is as simple as talking to a friend. God wants to hear from you. All you have to do is open that door of communication by talking with Him.
By praying together as a couple, you are united spiritually. Travis and I pray together before bed. Sometimes, he will just pray. Sometimes, I will just pray. Sometimes we pray together, taking turns to speak.
It doesn’t matter how you do it, but it is important to keep God the center of your relationship. Take your concerns to Him. Tell him what you are thankful for. Pray for your spouse. Having someone else pray out loud for you is a very special experience, especially when it is the one you love so dearly. What an incredible way to show your love to one another!
Yes, prayer was the best part of my wedding. What was the best part of your wedding?
