Thursday was our first Thanksgiving as husband and wife. Even though we were both missing our family, we had a great day together. Let me share with ya’ll about it (plus lots of photos!)
We watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — a tradition for both of us.
I made my first Thanksgiving meal! I was a little nervous about it, but it actually turned out really well! I made a three pound turkey breast, mashed potatoes, noodles, green beans, and rolls. Unfortunately, the gravy didn’t turn out for some reason. It was OK though because Travis didn’t want gravy anyways, it was just for me. Somehow, everything else came together. I guess I’m becoming a pretty good cook. Better than I thought at least. I also made pumpkin pie for dessert.
After we ate lunch together, Travis did the dishes (my kind of man!) while I put away the leftovers and cleaned off the counters and stove top.
After lunch and the parade, we headed to the movie theater to see Frozen. It was such a cute movie! We both laughed a lot and I loved the ending. The main character Ana reminded us both of me. The snowman, though, was definitely our favorite character.
We came home to eat some pumpkin pie, and then we headed back to the movie theater to watch Catching Fire. We both loved that movie too. Too bad we have to wait another year for the next one.
We ran to the store after the movie to get the necessities to make s’mores — one of my favorite treats! We roasted the marshmallows over our stove top and it worked perfect!
The next day, instead of shopping, we took a spontaneous trip to Jacksonville, Florida. It sure is nice to just pick up and drive to Florida whenever we want! We stopped at the welcome center to take some photos (so we could show off to family that we were in Florida!) and to get some free orange juice!
We went to Dave and Busters for some delicious food and lots of fun playing games! We won over 2,000 tickets, but decided to save them and go back another time.
We were able to find a cheap hotel that night so we stayed in Jacksonville because the next day we were going to Cumberland Island. This island is 15 miles long and inhabits wild horses. I was so excited for this trip, mainly for the horses. Unfortunately, though, it was pretty cold and windy out. And we didn’t see a single horse. But, we still had a good time chatting with another couple on the ferry and hiking through sand dunes, beaches, forest/jungle area, and trails. We did see some wildlife — about 10 turkeys, two deer, and a rat (ICK!). We hope to go back another time when the weather is better so we can cover more land and hopefully see some horses.
