No +1 = Helper

August 15, 2014 by Tiffany

Welcome to Seeing Sunshine! I'm so glad you've stopped by! Make sure you never miss a post by subscribing via email. This post may contain affiliate links, so be sure to view my disclosure policy.

Kind of a strange title for this post… if you don’t get it, you probably will after reading the whole post. 🙂

I went back to Indiana at the beginning of August. I decided to visit family while Travis was gone for a month, but the biggest reason I went back to the Hoosier state was to attend my sister-in-law’s wedding. As soon as I arrived, I went north to see Travis’ family. I thought it might be strange going there without my husband, but actually I felt really comfortable. I guess they really are my family now.

There was lots of wedding prep — decorating the church, decorating for the reception, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, getting everyone ready, etc. I went into this event wanting to help as much as possible. I didn’t have a plus one because Travis couldn’t come to the wedding. That gave me the perfect chance to become a helper rather than a guest.

Decorating Reception

I was given several small jobs to take care of for the bride and groom. I remembered my own wedding and how grateful I was that so many people took care of all those little details so I could just enjoy my special day. That’s what I wanted for Justin and Cara.

I stood as the guest book attendant — easy job. And once the wedding started, I had the hard job. Watch the two ring bearers and the flower girl, make sure they get down the aisle at the right time, sit with them and keep them busy during the ceremony. All of their parents were in the wedding party, so I had a big task ahead of me. But I really wanted the parents to not have to worry about the kids so they could really enjoy seeing their sister get married.

During the rehearsal, I wasn’t too sure how well I was going to do at this job! Those two boys together are like a tornado! Just look at them!

But during the actual ceremony, the kids did great! I was relieved!

I had a great time visiting family at the reception. It was so obvious how in love Cara is, and it made me so happy for her.

I can’t wait to tell Travis all about it, as I know he was very disappointed that he couldn’t be there. It was the first big event he had to miss due to the military life, and I hope it’s the last.

I hope Cara and Justin will always look back on their wedding day and remember it with joy and love. I wish you both the very best. Your brother and I have been praying for your marriage and will continue to do so.

Side Note: I loved getting to stay with my other sister-in-law Casey, which gave me plenty of time to spend with this rug-rat!

Loved the first photo of the boys! I love Travis’ family too. It was nice to see all the photos. I know you had a great time with them. 🙂 Congratulations to Cara!
