Coming Soon: The Museum of the Bible

November 2, 2015 by Tiffany

Welcome to Seeing Sunshine! I'm so glad you've stopped by! Make sure you never miss a post by subscribing via email. This post may contain affiliate links, so be sure to view my disclosure policy.

Every year at Allume, the halls are filled with sponsors, companies, and organizations. It’s a great chance to make contacts and learn about some great businesses. This year, a representative from the Museum of the Bible was at Allume. She showed us a video of what’s to come, and it got me so excited that I decided to write a whole post about it.

What is the Museum of the Bible?

The Museum of the Bible is coming the fall of 2017. This 430,000 square foot building will turn God’ Word into an immersive experience designed for people of all faiths, ages, cultural backgrounds, and nationalities.

The museum will be located in Washington, D.C., just two blocks from the National Mall. I love that this is the location of this museum — it shows that the Bible is an important part of history. It’s not just a book of stories; it’s a book of real life encounters.

The museum will provide guests with an inviting and personalized experience as they explore the history, narrative, and impact of the Bible. Museum of the Bible will be an experience like no other, using cutting-edge technology to bring the Bible to life. It will span time, space, and cultures, inviting everyone to engage with the Bible.

With three permanent sections and space for temporary exhibits, there will always be something new to explore. It would actually take nine 8-hour days to experience everything the museum will have to offer.

Here’s what each floor of the museum will offer:

  • Floor 1: Temporary exhibitions space, introductory presentation, permanent space for two of the world’s most renowned libraries, children’s area, and a gift shop.
  • Floor 2: Research labs, libraries, and the impact of the Bible
  • Floor 3: The narratives of the Bible and Nazareth village
  • Floor 4: The history of the Bible
  • Floor 5: Permanent exhibition space for two of the world’s greats museums, theater to seat 500, lecture hall to seat 100, classrooms, and an office
  • Floor 6: Gathering room, Biblical gardens, and a restaurant

Let’s Go Into More Detail

Floor 2: The Impact of the Bible

This area will explore the Bible’s impact over time on cultures, civilization, and daily life, including its profound influence on fine arts, science, government, and more. The Impact Floor will be modern, technologically advanced, visually stimulating, and interactive. It will tell stories of the Bible’s impact and invite visitors to share their own stories.

Floor 3: The Narratives of the Bible & Nazareth Village

This area shares the stories of the Bible by engaging all of the guests’ senses and turning the Bible’s words into reality. The adventure and drama of the Bible will come to life in riveting presentations. Visitors will walk through the narratives of the Hebrew text from Genesis to Chronicles and then through first-century Nazareth, ending with the story of the New Testament. This floor intertwines immersive experiences with artifacts, executed in highly creative ways.

Floor 4: The History of the Bible

This area showcases archaeological discoveries through modern storytelling to bring the Bible to life. The History Floor will feature more than 500 world-class artifacts that document the Bible’s preservation, translation, and transmission across centuries and cultures. Here, visitors will see many of the greatest biblical discoveries, including writings dating to the time of Abraham, fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, early New Testament writings, and more.

What do you think? Is this somewhere you’d want to visit?
