Travis and I bought a house at the beginning of this year. I’ve been living there and slowly fixing the place up since March. In those nine months of being a homeowner, I have discovered so many things I wish we had. Travis and I have talked about all the things we’d like to have as homeowners — practical items that will come in handy as we fix up this home and even build our own home someday.
As new homeowners ourselves, we thought it would only make sense to share these items with you as gift ideas for your friends and family who are new homeowners. Almost all of these items are on Travis’ Christmas list this year!
Check Out These Gift Ideas for New Homeowners
This stud finder includes a laser level, which makes it great for hanging wall art in that new home. This one detects wood, metal, studs and live A/C wires.
Every home owner needs all the stuff that comes in this tool kit. We got one for Christmas and we have used it tons of times already. If you know of a woman who is now a homeowner, check out this pink tool kit!
This little giant ladder system is the lightest 13-foot articulating ladder on the market. I love that it becomes small so it’s easy to store too.
Drill & Drill Bits
Make hanging up those wedding photos so much easier! My husband really wants a drill for Christmas this year. I know I definitely could have used one over the past year! If you are getting them the drill, think about giving these drill bits while you’re at it.
Paint Brushes, Rollers, and Trays
This paint kit is perfect because it comes with all of the essentials for painting a room — a paint brush, a paint tray, tray liner, and a paint roller. I can’t tell you how many rollers, paint tray liners, and brushes I have bought over the last nine months! Throw in some Frog Tape too!
This set is perfect because it comes with everything you need — 1,000 pieces of hardware.
Lowe’s or Home Depot Gift Card
Or whatever your local hardware store is. I like Lowe’s best because we can get a 10% military discount. I have saved a ton of money this past year from shopping there!
I had to borrow one of these when cleaning the dry wall dust in my bedroom. This item would definitely come in handy for all your future projects. Be sure you include a shop vac filter too.
Christmas Ornament
There are so many great personalized Christmas ornament ideas out there that would be such cute gifts for new homeowners. This one is so beautiful and classy where your home is hand painted onto a glass ball. For this one, they use a photo of your house and you can even have the address printed on the back.
Welcome Mat or Door Wreath
I love how this welcome mat is not your average shape. Of course, I love all door wreaths or signs too. Think any and all holidays!
For Homeowners With a Yard
This is one of those items you don’t really think about it until suddenly you need one to water plants or wash the car.
Shovels and rakes are great for any type of landscaping, so they are great gifts for a homeowner with a yard.
Of course it depends on the size of their yard, but this would be a great item. This lawn mower even gives you the option to side discharge, mulch, or bag your grass.
With any of these gifts, your new homeowner friends are sure to be happy!

What other ideas do you have?
You make a great point to focus on tools as gifts for new homeowners, Tiffany. I think that a lawnmower would be an especially nice gift for the first time homeowner. Most renters never had to worry about yard maintenance, let a lone a place to keep a mower. I’ll keep that in mind as my friends start to buy homes.
