With the holidays approaching, family time is sure to be in full-swing. My absolute favorite thing to do with family or friends is play board games or card games. I love games of strategy and games of silliness. I love the quality time games give us — the memories and laughter. If you know someone who’s love language is quality time, a game is a great gift.
I’ve created this list of some of my all-time favorite board games to share with you. Maybe it will give you some gift ideas for this Christmas!
Board Games I Own & Love
This is one of my favorite games! You have five seconds to name three things in a category. It is so fun! During game nights, I’m always pushing for this game!
This game is really fun with a small group, especially if you know each other pretty well. I really enjoy seeing the answers people come up with. Some of them are outrageous!
OK, I’m terrible at this game. Seriously. There is no way I will ever win. But thankfully, I care more about the quality time than the competition. This game is fun, and actually when you play with someone who’s really bad at it, it makes it even more funny.
This game has always been a favorite of mine, from when I was a kid to now. I got it as a gift for my birthday in college, and I still enjoy playing it. My favorite part is having kids and picking out a house — typical girl I guess.
My husband and dad both especially like this game — probably because they are really good at it. I love trying to remember the logos or slogans for popular companies. I guarantee at some point you’ll say, “Oh yeah, I knew that!”

Board Games I Need to Own
OK, you’ve probably seen hilarious videos of people playing this game. I think my family would love this game. I can just hear the laughter as we anticipate who will be pied in the face!
I played this game in college and really enjoyed it. I haven’t played it since, but I remember thinking I need to own it. It’s an adult game for 2-5 players.
OK, so I’ve never played this one. In fact, I had never even heard of it. But doesn’t it just sound fun? It sounds like one of those quirky games that ends up becoming your favorite. Here’s the game description: “Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. Family-friendly, party game for 2-5 players (up to 9 players when combined with any other deck).”
This is one of my all-time favorite games ever. I have no idea how I don’t own it yet. This one is SO fun with a large group. It’s hilarious to hear different people’s answers, and even more fun trying to guess who said what.
This one is right up there with the Game of Things, because I absolutely LOVE it and yet somehow don’t own it. I especially like playing this one with people I’m really close to and making sure they are on my team and then blowing the other team away with our mad skills!
Travis’ family is all about this game. I had never heard of it, let alone played it before until I married him. We play it whenever we get together. I’m not very good at it, so I really need to own this one so I can start practicing! It’s a card game that requires you to make words out of letters you are dealt.

Great list! I’m always looking for new games! My husband and I got Ticket to Ride for Christmas last year and have really enjoyed it.

Yes, I remember playing it once and liked it. Maybe someday we’ll own it!

Quixx. My 7 year old son received it for Christmas and we have all enjoyed it young and old. It is a dice game. Great for improving addition skills so an added bonus

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve never heard of that one!

Hi Tiffany,
If you think you might have liked Ticket to Ride, then yes, should really need to get it. My favorite is one that’s quite a bit “heavier” called El Grande.
