It has officially been one year since we moved here to Louisville. We closed on this house in March of 2018 and moved in that April. Moving is always a hard task, but little did we realize that the real work would begin after we were moved in! I lovingly call this house the rainbow house because when we moved in every room was painted a different color of the rainbow.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open concept but each one was painted green, yellow, and orange. The guest room was a Pepto-Bismol pink. Raylee’s room was bright orange. The master bedroom was blue. Downstairs in the basement there was a burnt orange, purple, blue, and red. There were a lot of colors going on, and it was so not my style!
Painting wasn’t the only task that needed to get done. We also really disliked the flooring. There were also several different kinds of flooring happening throughout this house. Consistency was not the key for whoever designed this place.
House Updates After One Year
We were a bit overwhelmed at first by all the projects we wanted to do. So we sat down together one day and made a list of everything possible that we’d like to do to this place. Things like painting rooms, installing new flooring, getting a new thermostat, installing new doorknobs, and expanding the deck all made the list. Then we went through and prioritized them — putting the ones that we could afford and most wanted to do first and working our way down. We didn’t have any sort of timeline, just wanted to work our way down the list as time and money allowed.
Well, now it’s been a year and I am blown away by the amount of projects we have accomplished. I decided to share with you all some of our before and after photos so you can see these projects come to life. After living here for a year and having all of these projects done, I really feel like this is home now. Of course, we haven’t completed the list (and probably never will), but some of the really big, most wanted projects have been completed and that feels so good.
Living/Dining/Kitchen/Entry
As you can tell from the photos, we had all the walls repainted. We painted the kitchen cabinets and got new hardware. We got a new fridge. We installed new flooring throughout all of the main living area. We got new blinds in the living/dining room. We installed floating shelves. We got furniture. We installed all new light fixtures.
There are still tons of things we want to do to this space. We’d like to get all new appliances. We want to get new countertops and a new sink. We may install a backsplash in the kitchen. I’d love to add new outlet covers and light switches everywhere. We know we need to repaint all the baseboards and trim. It’s never ending!
Guest Bedroom
Before
After
In our guest bedroom, we painted the walls, ceiling, and trim. We installed new outlet covers, new doorknobs, and a new smoke detector. Then we decorated and added new furniture. This room will turn into the nursery this year, so there’s new work to be done there!
Raylee’s Room
Before
After
In Raylee’s room, we had carpet installed. We painted the room and bought new blinds and curtains for the window. Then it was just a matter of decorating and getting furniture in. This room is totally complete. So that’s nice to be able to say.
Basement
Before
After
In our basement, we installed carpet all throughout. It was just cement floors when we bought the place. That’s really all we’ve done down there, but we have big plans this year to install an egress window and repaint.
Can you believe those changes? I can’t wait to see where it’s at in another year! What house projects are you working on this year?
