The last thing I’m going to want to do when I’m knee-deep in postpartum “bliss” with a toddler and newborn is run to the store because I realize I’m out of toothpaste. That’s why I like to stock up on household goods before the baby comes. I try to think of anything and everything we may need or run out of and buy a few extras when I’m in my third trimester.
Items to Stock Up On
Here are some ideas for items you may want to stock up on before that sweet newborn is keeping you up all night.
- Toilet paper
- Pads
- Hand soap
- Makeup remover
- Any makeup you may run out of in the next month or two
- Face wash
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Body wash
- Shaving cream
- Toothpaste
- Hair products like gel or mousse
- Deodorant
- Paper towels
- All-purpose cleaner
- Kleenex (especially if you are having your baby in the winter or spring)
- Dish soap/ Dishwasher detergent
- Sponges
- Laundry detergent
- Paper plates (no one wants to do dishes postpartum)

It is also a great time to stock up on pantry items. While you probably won’t be doing any big-time baking where you need to stock up on flour and sugar, you may be wanting fast meals. Think of things like peanut butter and jelly — especially if you have toddlers or kids in the house. Frozen items like pizzas and veggies that can be made quickly when you realize you don’t have anything for dinner. Pasta is also a great thing to have on hand, and be sure to grab some canned pasta sauce to keep in the pantry. Of course, you can also make ahead meals and freeze them too. I plan to do that next week with a friend.
I hope this list of ideas helps get your pregnancy brain going so you can feel more prepared for baby’s arrival.

I wish I could have read your blog before I had my babies. This is a great idea. I prepared for the baby, but never thought of stocking up on things our family might need or adding to my pantry. Neat ideas!
