It’s coming! Our first wedding anniversary is June 8. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year, but then it also feels like it’s been even longer. Has anyone ever felt like that? The first anniversary gift can be fun, silly, romantic, or sentimental. It can be an item or an experience. But coming up with a gift can be difficult! Perhaps you need some ideas?
I knew exactly what I wanted to get Travis for our first anniversary. I can’t wait to give it to him! Traditionally the first anniversary gift should be made of paper. So here are some paper ideas that range in price to fit all kinds of budgets.

Check Out These Anniversary Gift Ideas
1. Tickets for a cruise, vacation, or weekend getaway would be an awesome gift! Travis and I first planned on going on a cruise for our first anniversary, but we’ve decided to wait another year for that so we can save money. But if you can afford it, what a great way to spend quality time together. It’d be like another honeymoon!
2. Fill envelops with date night plans for the whole year. You create dates to fit your budget — one for each month — and put all the details inside an envelope. You can get really creative with this or keep it simple. Steph from Pretty Little Things explains how she did it here.
3. Make an ongoing gift of writing your spouse a letter once a month — fill it with memories, words of encouragement, prayers, or tell them all the reasons you love them.
4. DaySpring has a whole collection of Mr. and Mrs. gifts. We have the coupon book, and it’s so fun looking through it to see what we want to surprise each other with. They also have note sets, mugs, and journals. (Although, a mug isn’t made of paper.)
5. Get your spouse tickets to a sporting event like a baseball game, a basketball game, or whatever you’re a fan of. It’s quality time with your lover and making memories with your best friend.
6. Etsy has all sorts of wall art for happy couples. I really like this one that shows down to the minutes how long you’ve been married, or this one that tells all the big events that happened in that first year. What neat keepsakes!
7. Tickets for a marriage retreat can be a great way to show that you are still committed to your marriage and want to keep growing and strengthening your marriage. Check with your church or your military chaplain to see if there are any retreats coming up.
Later in June, I’ll tell you what Travis and I got each other and what we did to celebrate our first year of happiness.

For our 5th anniversary, my bff gave my husband and I a bark wood sign, from Unique Custom Products in Colorado, with a photo from our wedding color printed onto it. It was absolutely gorgeous and neatly done! It definitely brought back memories of how special that day was. It’s one of the best gifts anyone has ever given me. Unique Custom Products’ website is definitely worth checking out. http://www.stampworldonline.com/category.aspx?categoryID=1009

The best first anniversary gift I ever saw was a glass window sill sun clock that would make rainbows in the room when the sun hit it. I had one made for my wife and the guy who made it added a custom anniversary date line that the time shadow follows on the special day each year…my wife said it was the most thoughtful gift she had ever received!
