Remember in January when I shared my One Word for the year?
My word was Explore. I wanted to explore places, friendships, job opportunities, new designs, and new restaurants.
Since it’s now the middle of the year, I wanted to give ya’ll an update on how my One Word is going.
The places we’ve explored so far this year include:
- Jacksonville, Florida
- Disney World
- Sea World
- Ponte Vedra, Florida
- Panama City Beach, Florida
- Daytona Beach, Florida
Do you think we like Florida? 🙂
Plus, we’ve tried out some new restaurants in all those places! We’ve also marked a few off our Food Passport like Ruth Chris’ Steakhouse for Valentine’s Day.
As far as friendships go, I feel like I’m getting closer to some people here in Georgia. I joined a new small group and met a few new women from church. I went to a spouse’s event and met a couple people too.
I’m exploring a new job opportunity by writing all the stories for a magazine that will come out in August. It’s going to be a ton of work, but it’s going to give me so much experience and look great on my resume. I also picked up a position as the editor of the features section of a local newspaper. I’ve been doing that for several months now, and I really like it.
And ya’ll know I recently got a new design layout for my blog! In fact, I’ve got a giveaway going on now, so be sure to go enter if you haven’t already!
I think I’ve been exploring like crazy this year, and I still have six months left for even more exploring! Here’s what I’m hoping for in the next six months:
- Go on a cruise (maybe?)
- Spend a weekend in Charleston
- Join a new small group as a couple
- Host a game night to grow closer to our friends
- Bake treats for all our neighbors
- Try all the restaurants in our food passport
What was your word for the year? Give me an update on how you’ve seen your word in these last six months.

Explore was a fun word…maybe I’ll try it next year! Mine was service. I’ve wanted to draw closer to God, but to put my faith in action for him. I’ve started prayer walking, volunteered with the united way painting a day care room, cooking for someone sick, donating blood, donating to some causes, and this weekend I’ll be volunteering at a work day to help a local family. I have a lot more to do and more ways to serve this year. Feeling fortunate and loving my time with God.

Painting a day care room sounds fun. Are you doing any neat designs or drawings?
