Have I mentioned this is my year of traveling? I hope I have lots of years of traveling, but this feels like my first big “let’s see how many places I can go” year. I’ve been to South Carolina, Korea, Hawaii, Tennessee, and Florida so far this year. Plus, I’ve lived in Georgia and Indiana. I’ve drove through even more states! In fact, I’ve visited three new states I’ve never been to — Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
I went through those states during my trip to Texas. It’s kind of random how I ended up going to Texas, but I jumped on the chance to take a trip down there. We went to the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas and spent several days doing all sorts of fun things and eating some delicious food.
Here are the fun things I did while visiting thanks to suggestions from my friend who lives there.
Things to Do in Dallas Fort Worth
We took a trolley ride through downtown Dallas, which was a great way to see the area and check out which restaurants we might want to visit. The trolley is free, so that’s an added bonus!
We shopped at Sam Moon, a really cheap (yet good quality) store with all sorts of accessories. They have walls and walls covered in jewelry!
We got cupcakes from Sprinkles Cupcakes at the Cupcake ATM. Yes, it’s just like a regular ATM except instead of using the touch screen to say how much money you want, you tell it what flavor cupcake you want. It was the best cupcake I’ve ever had and such a neat experience!
We went to the Fort Worth Water Garden, an area in downtown Fort Worth that has beautiful water features. We had so much fun walking down into one of the water features and exploring this area. Plus, it was free — yes, we like free!
We visited the Stockyards in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, we missed the cattle drive by a couple minutes. So if you go, be sure you are there right when the cattle drive is supposed to start — they drive the longhorn cattle down the main street twice every day, in the morning and late afternoon. They are lots of little shops and restaurants to try here. We enjoyed looking at the longhorns in their pins.
We walked the Continental Avenue Pedestrian Bridge at night so we could see the Dallas skyline all lit up. It was beautiful!
We visited Pioneer Plaza in downtown Dallas to see the statues of the longhorn cattle drive.
We drove a bit farther, outside of Fort Worth, to Glen Rose to go to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, which is basically a drive-through zoo. This was one of our favorite parts of the whole trip. You drive your car through a nine-mile habitat where many of the animals will come up to your car. You can buy a bag of food and feed them. We got to see so many deer, goats, rams, giraffes, and zebras up close.
We went to the Nickel Mania arcade to play all sorts of fun games using nickels. We won enough tickets to get a couple pieces of candy! Ha! I loved playing the basketball game because it was the first time I was super awesome at it! I felt like I was channeling Michael Jordan!
We only had a few days to spend in Texas, but my friend who lives in Dallas had a huge list of other things to do.

Wow – I’ve never been to Texas, except driving through the edge of it to another destination. This looks like a great trip. I love the photo of the Continental Avenue Pedestrian Bridge! Looks beautiful.
The wildlife drive sounds so cool. I would love to be that close to a zebra and the other animals. What an adventure! This will definitely be on my list if I ever do make it to Dallas, Texas.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it should be on your bucket list! It was funny because we almost didn’t go to the water garden because we thought it sounded lame, and it ended up being one of our favorite parts. It was so neat!
