Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, was my home from 2007-2011. It will forever be a special place in my heart. Did you go to AU?
You know you went to Anderson University when…
1. You’ve been sledding at Shady Side Park.
2. You know Ivanhoe’s is the best place to get ice cream, and it’s worth the drive.
3. You’d rather go to Deluxe Donuts late at night than a frat party.
4. You don’t bother going to the football games because you know your team is going to lose, but if you do go it’s for the drummers from third floor Dunn.
5. You only stay friends with one person from your freshmen year family group.
6. You gain the freshmen fifteen because of the cookies from the MP.
7. Forget Starbucks, you want Mocha Joe’s.
8. Saying you have class in the FARTS building isn’t a joke.
9. You love reading the security log in the Andersonian.
10. You remember Cheap Thrills and aren’t surprised that Dativus got in trouble.
11. You’ve been completely paranoid during campus-wide assassins.
12. You’ve found Batman in the cemetery.
13. You broke the rules and played in Helios.
14. Your favorite restaurants are Real Ha, Lemon Drop, and Eva’s Pancake House.
15. You met your spouse on a roommate date, and you got a ring by spring.
16. You’ve played Frisbee golf in the valley.
17. You have a cowboy hat just for the annual square dance.
18. You’ve gotten lost in Rice Hall before.
19. You were excited when the Haven got Chic-Fil-A.
20. You count down to the next CAB event.
21. You know the Anderson mall has nothing to offer except a movie theater.
22. You love going to Gene’s Root Beer when the weather is warm.
23. You volunteer to work Colts Camp in the summer.
24. You know you’ll forever be in debt from student loans.
25. There’s one main chapel service you always look forward to.
26. You understand the difference between Dunn and Smith and you prefer one over the other.
27. 10:07 is one of your favorite parts of the week.
28. Even after you turn 21, you aren’t allowed to drink — and you either have no problem with that rule or you’ve already broken it several times.
29. You listen to WQME.
30. Encore is one of your favorite events of the year.
31. You have a committed love for either South Campus or Fair — depending which you lived in.
32. You will always consider yourself a Raven and you’re proud of it!
Hey fellow Ravens, what would you add to this list?
Thanks for sharing this post and commenting with what you would add to this list! Here are my favorites from my Raven readers:
33. You got fined for something state schools would ignore.
34. You went to Bedside Baptist at least once.
35. You’ve ate at P. Eddy’s house.
36. You know which social club started Encore.
37. You learned just as much about God as you did sex in the Human Sexuality course.
38. You went to Meijer Extravaganza before school started.
39. You saw Dr. Saltzman walking around in shorts and sandals in the snow.
40. You’ve walked around campus at night before homecoming to enjoy the luminaries.
41. You’ve either tried to or wanted to roast marshmallows over the eternal flame.
42. You’ve talked to squirrels on your way to class.
43. You were told why you should never touch “the rock” during orientation.
Keep them coming friends!

You also know that you are Raven when you make the long walk from Morrison Hall to WQME just to see your best friend at work.

Great ones!
Rachel says
30.5 You know the social clubs name that started Encore….and are so sad that they no longer exist.
Tiffany says
I didn’t even know they don’t exist anymore! 🙁
Kim says
Agapios & sister club eniteo
Michelle says
It doesn’t exist anymore?!? Awwww…(1999-2005…yes, six years…still haven’t paid off my loans…) Does L’ami exist????
Sarah Alley says
Yes, L’ami does still exist! I have such great memories of that club–I sure hope it is around for years to come!
David says
This is for recent students. Maybe I will work on one for the 70s 80s group
Tiffany says
Yes, I just wrote this from my perspective. I went to school there from 2007-2011. You should definitely write one for your generation!
Lisa pay says
The Human Sexuality course was surprisingly as much about God as it was about Sex.
Tiffany says
Yes! I loved that class Lisa! I was surprised how much I learned.
Rae Schaffer says
Yes, Lisa! That class was the reason I pursued a Family Science degree.
Travis says
Number 4 pisses me off… I played football at AU from 2000-2004… Why don’t you go look up our record during those times… or your free to take a look at my conference championship ring…
Tiffany says
I’m sorry I offended you Travis. That’s awesome that the team was really good while you were there. I only wrote this from my perspective, and I wasn’t a student in 2000-2004. This was just meant to be funny, so I hope you understand.
Michelle says
I went to AU 1999-2005, and I found your list pretty accurate ? (Don’t tell Travis – he was always kinda touchy on the subject!!)
Sarah says
For those who had a specific professor: you went to every freshman year “Romantic Love” course and received a bag of M&Ms because you made it to every class.
You shopped at either Harvest Market, Meijer, or Payless and were loyal to only one of those stores throughout all 4 years. *and if you are like me, you still have your Payless Ravens discount card from 10 years ago.
Tiffany says
Oh, Meijer Extravaganza! 🙂
Krystal says
If you ever had the privledge of seeing Dr. Saltzman walk in his shorts and sandals in the snow.
If you’ve ever done your homework outside.
If you ever took a stroll on campus at night before homecoming to view the luminaries.
Tiffany says
Oh, these are so good!! I loved the luminaries!
Kristin says
This was after my time, I was 99-02. I’m sad we never had Chick-Fil-A or Mocha Joe’s!
Tiffany says
That is sad. What did you have during those years? I remember being excited there was a Pizza Hut, but by the time I enrolled as a student it was gone.
Kristi Ferguson says
I was there 2001-2006; I thought Mocha Joe’s was there the whole time, but it must’ve come about the fall of ’02 maybe.
Michelle says
Pretty sure Mocha Joe’s was there the whole time, too….(1999-2005)
Faith says
You’ve slept in a hammock in the valley.
You’ve tried or at least wanted to roast marshmallows over the eternal flame.
You’ve talked to squirrels on your way to class (and have an opinion about how the legendary black squirrel died/was murdered).
You had every reason to believe the stories about why you should never touch “the rock” during orientation.
Tiffany says
Haha!! So many good ones Faith! I am proud to say I DID roast marshmallows over the eternal flame! And unfortunately, I did touch the rock! Ha!
Leif Holm says
You, or someone you know, frequently climbed to the top of the “dome” before it’s demolition.
Sue says
These are great. I’m showing my age (I graduated in ’67), but I don’t get # 6 nor #27. MP? 10:07? Maybe someone could explain their significance.
Thank you
Tiffany says
The MP is short for Marketplace — where we eat in the Olt Student Center. And 10:07 is a student-led worship service that takes place at 10:07 p.m. 🙂
Sara says
Didn’t meet my husband on a roommate date, but I did get a ring…spent most of my time in FARTS…and was proud to serve as AGATHOS’s Encore Director for a year.
Kim says
You went sledding in the valley with a tray from the market place. Back in the day when mocha joes was a bowling alley and chick filet was the Ravens haven. And the wellness center was an ongoing cheap thrills skit about some thing that was talked about but did not exist president Edwards hadn’t transformed into p eddy we had a rugby team Myers hall was a coed dorm. The weight room used to be under the bleachers on the football field. Favorite hangouts were Perkins and Steak ‘n Shake n the hi way cafe in Alexandria. Can anyone guess the years?

Mandi says
sounds like when I was there 🙂 1998 – 2002!
Rita says
Hmmmm, definitely the early 90’s. The trays, squirrels, and weight room were a part of the seventies as well! The trays were metal back then, molded to your bum?
Michelle says
1. You made your own Belgian waffles for breakfast in the Marketplace
2. All you ate for at least ONE MEAL was ice cream cones.
3. You experienced “rush week” (is it still called that??)
4. You had at least ONE class in Decker 133 – and couldn’t find it unless you were there for freshman orientation!
5. You know that liquid soap + Helios = campus filled with bubbles!!
6. You went on a Tri-S trip!!
7. You got a tattoo or a piercing to celebrate your independence!!(And then found out it was shut down by the health department not too long after!)
Meredith Katsu says
– You remember enjoying pancakes at The FLOP!!
– It isn’t Christmas until Candles and Carols
– You hear The Lord Bless You and Keep you and you cry because you miss the AU Choral.
Tiffany says
I LOVED the Flop!!
Allie says
You hit P. Eddy with a snowball in the valley and had one thrown back at you instead of ending up in trouble (thankfully).
Tiffany says
That is awesome! 🙂
Steven Beverly says
#. You know what J-Term is.
#. You discovered creative ways to get out of attending Chapel.

Haha! I love that last one!

.7 MUGS Coffee and Tea Company, only 2 years old and a block from campus, is also owned and run by Anderson Alumni and serves awesome fresh-roasted coffee and teas.
Emily says
1. You’ve climbed (or at least attempted) to get on one or more roofs around campus.
2. You consider the walk up to third floor Decker your workout for the day.
3. You’ve complained about the internet speed primarily so you could watch Netflix.

These are great!! Do they still have open house hours? I went from 1994-1998. Love Anderson!
