A friend of mine named Jessica who blogs at Keeping Up with Joneses was recently nominated for an award where she had to answer some questions about herself on her blog and then come up with other questions to ask other bloggers.
Jessica chose my blog, as well as four others, to answer these questions she came up with. Today, I thought I would answer those questions as a way for you all to get to know me a little better. It’s a Q&A with me!
Q&A Time
1. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog back in 2012 when Travis and I were broke up. I had been blogging on a WordPress.com site and wanted to take the blog to the next level. I started Seeing Sunshine as a way to encourage others, specifically single ladies.
2. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 13-year-old self?
That’s a really hard question. I think most of all I would want myself to be more confident than I was. I was very shy, quiet, and unconfident until I hit 17. I would love to tell myself how much more fun I would have if I wasn’t so afraid of what people would think. I would tell myself, “Hey, people actually like you when you’re yourself so just go for it!”
3. What are three things you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my God. I would still be breathing, but inside I would be dead. My soul needs my Jesus. Second, I would say I can’t live without my family. My husband and my other relatives are my support system. I don’t know how I would get through life without all of them. And last, I would say I can’t live without sweets — specifically ice cream!
4. Cat or Dog? Why?
To be totally honest, and I hope you don’t all hate me — I’m not really a pet person. Living out in the country growing up, we had some outdoor animals but they always die, run away, etc. I got used to not getting attached and it’s stuck with me. I’ve owned a dog and a cat by myself and enjoyed it, but I don’t really know which I like better. I just don’t want any inside animals.
5. What is your guilty pleasure TV show or movie?
Oh goodness, I’ve gotten into Survivor. I watched this show when it first came out, and then I stopped watching because it was too much deception and betrayal. But now, I find all the mind games interesting. I love all the twists.
6. Where was your last, best vacation?
My last, best vacation was probably when we went on our cruise with Carnival to Mexico, Honduras, and Belize. It was a trip to remember for sure!
7. Where do you get your inspiration to write?
It depends what it is I’m writing about. Most of the time when I feel really inspired to write it’s because God has been speaking to me. And it’s usually when I’m in a season of sorrow that I find I am most inspired to write.
8. What do you have for breakfast?
Cereal. Every day. My favorite kind is called Love Crunch. It’s granola with raspberries, strawberries, and dark chocolate pieces. I tend to go for more healthy cereal options.
9. What is your best feature?
Physically, I would say my hair. It’s what I get the most compliments on. It’s naturally blonde — I’ve never colored it or even highlighted it. And it’s naturally curly, which can be a hassle, but for the most part I love it.
10. What would plan B have been career wise?
I feel like I am in Plan B in a way. I really want to be a stay-at-home mom, and since we don’t have kids yet … here I am writing away and working as a virtual assistant.
11. Would you still blog if you knew no one would read it?
If no one was reading, I would put much less work into it. I wouldn’t worry about photos or social media. It would take way less time, and I know I would blog much less often. But yes, I would still blog. I’d probably just do it in a free platform rather than paying for a domain. Basically, I’d be journaling — which I do now. So yes, I would always have to write. It’s like there’s something inside me and sometimes it builds up so much I just have to get it out — whether it be through pen and paper or sitting at a computer.

Since you have already been able to travel quite a lot, where have you enjoyed visiting the most and where do you still want to go? Do you enjoy traveling by air, sea or land?

Great question! My favorite place that I’ve visited so far has been Goff’s Cay, Belize. We snorkeled for a long time and then had lunch on the VERY small island of Goff’s Cay. It was wonderful! I still want to go to tons of places. Most specifically — Australia, New Zealand, Italy, southern California. I think on your last question, it depends how long the trip is. If it’s long, then I’d rather fly to make it faster. If it’s short, by land. If it’s sunny and it’s a cruise ship, then sea! HAHA!
