Ya’ll know I like to feel prepared before having a baby … or actually any time! But especially right before such a huge change and life transition. Last time I was pregnant, a friend asked me if I’d like to do freezer meals together. We made several, and it was so helpful to have those meals tucked away and ready to use when we needed them. Now that I know how hard postpartum can be, I knew I wanted to make freezer meals again. When you haven’t slept in days (or maybe even weeks) and the last thing you feel like doing is cooking, freezer meals can be a lifesaver!
This time, I asked a friend who recently had a baby herself if she’d like to come over and do freezer meals together. I highly recommend grabbing a friend and doing it together. You can help each other with all the chopping and measuring while visiting. It makes it so much more fun, and it goes faster. We just made double of each recipe and then we both got to have freezer meals for our families. We split the cost on groceries too.
I scoured the Pinterest world for the best freezer meals. We wanted a variety of meats. We also wanted something for breakfast, and I wanted some snacks. Here’s what we ended up making!
Freezer Meals We Made Together
Maple Pulled Pork from Sweet Peas and Saffron
This is a slow cooker meal, which I love. We bought two pork shoulders and cut them each in half. Because our families are small, we knew an entire pork shoulder would be too much. Cutting them in half meant we each got two meals from this one recipe. Plus, the whole pork shoulder wouldn’t fit in a gallon size freezer bag! This was a simple recipe, and we’ll be able to just throw it all in the crock pot on the day we want to cook it.
Chicken Fajitas from The Family Freezer
This one sounds really yummy with all the colorful peppers! It’s not a crock pot meal, so it will take some cooking, but only 10-15 minutes worth because everything is already prepped. Making this recipe for the freezer meals was a lot of prep work with chopping up all the onion, peppers, and chicken. But you can also buy onion and peppers that are already sliced up and frozen if you want to save time. When it’s time to make them, you just need tortillas and any toppings you want — guacamole please!
Slow Cooker Balsamic Shredded Beef from Thriving Home Blog
This one was super easy because it was just a matter of throwing everything into the freezer bag. When we are ready for this meal, we just need to set it out to thaw the night before and then throw it in the crock pot the morning we want to devour it. We could eat this as sandwiches or with mashed potatoes and veggies.
Honey Garlic ChickenĀ from Sweet Peas and Saffron
This was the easiest of all the recipes we made. It only has five ingredients and you just throw it all in the bag. On the day you want to eat it, you just have to bake the marinated chicken and sauce. This one sounds so flavorful. We will probably eat it on top of rice!
Lasagna Roll-Ups from Pioneer Woman
This recipe took the most time and work. We saved it for last. But once we got going, it was pretty easy. Instead of using freezer bags for this meal, we used foil loaf pans. You have to cook the noodles and the sauce, then make the filling and assemble them. So it’s a bit of work. But my friend said they already tried theirs and they were really good. So it’s worth the work! We each took four of these loaf pans home, but you can also just make one big 9×13 pan if you have a bigger family. We just knew our families can’t eat a whole 9×13 lasagna.
Breakfast
Banana Bread Muffins from The Frugal Girls
We wanted to do a breakfast item too. I remember having to breastfeed a newborn in the morning and starving. Now, I’ll have a toddler to feed too. So having a quick breakfast on hand is going to come in handy. We doubled this recipe, not realizing the recipe itself would have been enough for us both. So we ended up both having four full freezer bags of muffins! We figure if we can’t eat all of them, we can always thaw them out and take them to neighbors or our morning moms’ Bible study that we go to. Believe me, they will be eaten! Because we’ve already tried them and they are so good! We made sure to start this recipe first, so that while the muffins were baking we could be working on all the other recipes. I highly recommend you get two muffin trays to use at once. That would have made this recipe go much faster.
Snacks
S’mores Energy Bites from Sweet Peas and Saffron
Can you tell I liked Sweet Peas and Saffron blog? I got a lot of recipes from there, and the cool thing about this one is they offer a bunch of different flavors of energy bites. I just chose the one I thought I would like most — S’mores. And yes, I’ve tried them and it’s a winner. I feel like I didn’t make enough of these, though. We each got to take a bag home, but I feel like we could eat the whole bag in one sitting! I think I’ll definitely be making more of these since they are so good. Plus, you can eat them straight from the freezer when you need a pick-me-up.
Whole Wheat Dark Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
This recipe actually comes from my mother-in-law. She makes these cookies and keeps them in her freezer. I love eating them frozen, which is surprising considering how much I love warm chocolate chip cookies. Because they are made with whole wheat and oats and peanut butter — I like to think they are healthy. I didn’t make this recipe with my friend on our freezer meal day. I made these with my daughter one day at home. This makes a big batch and I was able to freeze two gallon-size bags full, plus have a few leftover for us to eat that week (more like day because they are so good!)
So there ya have it, friend. My freezer is stocked and ready for baby to arrive. She could be here anytime now! Are you planning to do freezer meals before a baby arrives?
Here are a couple items you may need for your freezer meal day!

Great ideas! I wish I had done this when I was pregnant. I was so thankful I lived close to my family because my Mom and Grandma cooked some meals and brought to us, but having freezer meals would have been very helpful.
