We PCS every two to three years. We handle deployments and TDYs like a boss. We say goodbye to old friends, and welcome new friends. We shop at the commissary and PX. We enter a gate to get to our jobs and sometimes our homes. We are strong. We are resilient. We are the military community. And military life, although rewarding, can be hard. It can be knock-you-on-your-feet hard. On those days -- or let's face it, sometimes months -- a small act of kindness can mean so much. One simple act of kindness can be the hand that helps you stand back up. There have been plenty of times in my three Continue Reading
Guy Behind the Blog Episode 10
Wow, is June really over? That seems nuts! I can't believe I'll be heading to sunny Florida this week for a family vacation! What do you have planned this summer? Since it's the end of the month it means we get to welcome Travis, my husband, to the blog and see what answers he's got to some interesting questions. Here are this month's questions: 1. What's one of your favorite memories with your dad? I have MANY great memories with my dad! Growing up we would do everything together -- fishing, hunting, basketball, baseball, wrestling, tennis, ping pong, teaching me to drive in his old Continue Reading
Finding Your Selah (+Giveaway)
Rush. Rush. Rush. Sometimes, I feel like that's all I do. I rush around trying to mark things off my to-do list. I rush to the grocery store. I rush to clean the house before the guests arrive. I rush my husband to do the things I put on his honey-do list. I rush through my morning Bible time. Rush. Rush. Rush. The thing about rushing around is you are always distracted. Constantly on the go, always moving. Always typing, in my case. You don't have time to think. Or feel. Sometimes, you don't have time to breathe. I partnered with DaySpring to receive the monthly devotional kits, and as I Continue Reading
2 Ways to Monetize Your Blog as a Beginner
I had my blog up and running for at least a year before I began to monetize it. But it's honestly never too soon to start. There are two main ways to monetize a blog that are perfect for beginners -- whether a monetizing beginner or a blogging beginner. What I love about these two ways to monetize is that you can get passive income. By that I mean you do a little work at the beginning and then sit back and watch the pennies roll in. I say pennies because I want you to know this is not a get-rich-quick method. I know very very few people -- actually none -- who suddenly made a lot of Continue Reading
3 Tips for Newlyweds
Three years ago, I was wrapped up in the preparations for the biggest day of my life - my wedding day. It ended up going by so fast, but it was an incredibly joyous, beautiful event full of love. And then came marriage. Being in a military marriage comes with its extra doses of stress with things like long-distance. And, to be completely honest, there have been times I’ve struggled with those parts of marriage that aren’t so romantic or fairytale-like. However, I surround myself with encouragers, some of whom have been married for 60 years, some who are celebrating 30 years, and some Continue Reading
Things to Do Near Fort Leonard Wood
Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri is often referred to as Fort Lost in the Woods because it seems to be out in the middle of nowhere. For people who are used to city life, this duty station can be a big change. It can definitely feel like there's not much around. But Travis and I both feel like every duty station is what you make of it. You can PCS and be totally depressed ... or you can have a good attitude and find new adventures -- even while lost in the woods! Travis and I have only been stationed at Fort Leonard Wood for five months, but we have already found a ton of fun things to do! Continue Reading
How to Use CoSchedule
I posted a link to my latest blog post to Facebook. With almost 1,000 Facebook followers, you would think many of them would see it, a percentage of those people would engage with the post by liking or commenting, and a smaller percentage would click the link. But here I sit, waiting for anyone to even see that post. Facebook tells me that even though I have almost 1,000 followers, only 25 people have seen that post. As bloggers and business people, we know that Facebook reach is low. It makes sense -- they want us to pay for those views by boosting our posts. Most of us bloggers like to Continue Reading
When Pregnancy Announcements Hurt
I woke up early and wasn't able to get back to sleep. I did my normal morning routine, and ate my bowl of cereal on the couch while watching the Today Show. I'm normally not up and watching the 8 am hour of the show, but thanks to my early rising I got to see the co-hosts Matt and Savannah bringing me the news. And then out of nowhere, she announced it. I wasn't expecting it, and neither were the other hosts of the show. Savannah pulled the paper from the fish bowl and asked, "Are you pregnant?" Her answer was yes. Everyone cheered and asked questions. And my heart sank. I turned Continue Reading
Life Lately: PCS Change
We had originally wanted to stay at Fort Leonard Wood after my husband's five-month course was finished. We wanted to stay because this is the closest we've been to family -- only five hours from mine, and seven hours from his. We wanted to stay because I was pregnant, and we wanted to be close to family for the pregnancy and birth of our first child. As many of you know, we lost that baby as we PCSed here. That didn't change our desire to stay put though. Our top two choices were staying here at FLW or moving to Fort Knox, as it would also be a close option. We made our list, sent it off Continue Reading
Father’s Day Gift Ideas
A greeting card with a gift card tucked inside -- that's what a I get my dad for Father's Day every single year. Although I know he uses the gift cards and appreciates the gift, I don't feel like I'm being very thoughtful or creative. Buying gifts for my dad is just hard. I know my dad enjoys mowing the lawn and working with tools. He loves washing his truck and watching the same movie a million times. But as far as things he would like as a gift? I'm just not sure. Not sure what he already has. Not sure what he'll actually use. Perhaps you are in the same boat. Is your dad tough to buy Continue Reading
A Game to Strengthen Your Marriage
I'm teaming up with DaySpring to talk about strengthening marriages. They are offering a giveaway to my readers because they value marriage as much as I do. Be sure to read all the way to the end because we've got a giveaway and a promo code just for you guys! If there's one thing I learned last year while Travis was stationed in Korea it's how important it is to strengthen your marriage in any way you can. Being long distance put an incredible strain on our marriage, and I'm so thankful that God got us through and we survived. Today, Travis and I are celebrating our three-year wedding Continue Reading
Working as a Virtual Assistant
Many people have asked me how I make money on my blog. In all honesty, I don't make a ton of money from my blog ... yet! I have used affiliate links for awhile, but I barely make any money off of them. I only began monetizing my blog seriously in just the past month. I'll be writing a post soon about it. Until then, I want to share how I have been making money. And that's by being a virtual assistant. When people ask me what I do, very few know what a virtual assistant is. It's not a well-known job but I believe soon it will be. With so many people now working from home thanks to technology Continue Reading
