Travis and I have been married for almost 9 months now. We enjoy talking about the future. Having a forever home, future careers, and starting a family... As fun as it is to think about getting pregnant or having our first baby, we are not ready for that stage in our lives. Not ready at all. There are so many things we want to do before we change our lives forever. And a baby will definitely change things! For those of you out there wondering if it's time for you to start expanding your family, here's a list of things you should do before you consider starting a family. 10 Things to Do Continue Reading
How to Prevent Illness in Your Home
"I think I might be getting sick," my husband said to me, just two days before Valentine's Day. It would be our first Valentine's Day together -- physically together on a date. The first Valentine's Day when we were "talking" and interested in each other was on a Monday and I had a night class. We couldn't go out. The second one, we were broke up. :( And last year, he was living in Georgia while I was living in Indiana. So when I heard him say he might be getting sick, I was not about to let that happen. We were going on this date! The next morning, I went into prevent-sickness Continue Reading
A New Season: A Glimpse into my Heart Break
I've been sharing with you the things I wrote during the worst eight months of my life -- when the man who is now my husband and I had broken up. My heart was broken (as was his), we weren't talking, and the only things I could do to lessen the pain was to pray and to write. With Valentine's Day coming up, I know there are others out there who are hurting with the thoughts of hearts and love. For those people, I'm sharing these writings to hopefully spread some sunshine during such a dark time. This is the fourth installment of A Glimpse into my Heart Break. Be sure to read the other Continue Reading
Sweetie Pies
Valentine's Day is upon us folks. This will be my first one with a husband. But whether you are married or single, you can still celebrate with a yummy treat! You can make these for your family to enjoy, for dessert during a romantic home-cooked meal, to devour all by yourself while crying during your favorite chick flick, to take to a party or to give as a thank you gift to people in your community. Whatever floats your boat! First of all, don't you just love their name? Sweetie Pies are sweet and made of pie dough so the name really does fit and is perfect for this holiday. Here's Continue Reading
Healing Playlist: Songs to Heal Your Heart
With Valentine's Day on its way and getting closer and closer, I was really feeling for those out there who just aren't feeling the love this month. I decided to share my writings from when I was going through my own break up and dealing with my own heart break, as a way to, hopefully, spread some sunshine for those who are hurting. You are not alone. You will get through this. This is the third installment of A Glimpse into my Heart Break. I think music speaks straight to our hearts a lot of the time. So when your heart needs healing or uplifting or maybe it needs the freedom to Continue Reading
Raspberry Shortbread Valentine Cookies
Looking for a delicious cookie to make for Valentine's Day? You know what they say -- the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Travis and I both thought these cookies were delicious! Here's what you'll need: Butter (make sure it is softened!) Sugar Brown sugar Flour Salt Raspberry preserves (or jam) Powdered sugar Heavy whipping cream Start by creaming together the butter, sugar and brown sugar. Then, mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Roll out your dough. Be sure to flour the surface and the rolling pin. I needed lots of extra Continue Reading
Ways to Mend a Broken Heart
For Valentine's Day coming up, I've decided to share about the time in my life where I had a completely broken heart. Not the usual love post, huh? Well, my heart is aching a little for those out there who are struggling with this day, this month, this year. The people who have struggling relationships and especially those who have already felt the pain of it ending. I'm sharing things I wrote during my own personal break up. Be sure to read the first post -- Waiting for Morning, which explains more about the break up. This is the second installment of A Glimpse into my Heart Break, Continue Reading
Running: How God Cares
Confidence. I hadn't been feeling it. I gained some weight over the holidays, as most do. But it just wasn't coming off and my workouts of running hadn't been as good as they were before the holidays. I could see the difference in my body, and I was not pleased. Wednesday night as I said my prayers with my husband before we went to sleep, I asked God to help me have better workouts. I asked Him to help me lose this extra weight and that I would feel confident about myself again. That might seem like a silly thing to pray about when so many other awful things are happening in this world, but Continue Reading
Waiting for Morning: A Glimpse into my Heart Break
Valentine's Day is on it's way. Love. Love. Love. It's being shoved in our faces from all directions. I have a few posts about love in the works, but my heart is aching a little for those who aren't feeling the love this season. That day with all its red and pink and hearts and confetti and candy and kisses -- well, it can be really difficult for those who have recently had their hearts broken. It can be downright torture for someone going through a breakup or a divorce or even just someone who's relationship is on the rocks. And for those out there feeling that pain instead of the mushy Continue Reading
Books to Help You Grow as a Couple
Travis and I have been married for eight months this February. I think we are definitely still in the newlywed stage. We haven't had any big arguments yet -- nothing we couldn't solve within an hour. We are so in love, and we both enjoy finding ways to show our love to one another. But no matter how happy or healthy our marriage is, I believe there is always room for growth and improvement. Why not work on our relationship now while it's great rather than wait until we have problems? I believe it's important to work on your relationship from the very beginning to prevent future problems. Continue Reading
Things to Do at Disney World
As an early birthday present, Travis surprised me with a trip to Disney World! We were both so excited to visit the most magical place on earth. We left Thursday night and spent the night in a hotel. Friday was all about Magic Kingdom. Saturday, we spent half the day in Animal Kingdom and the rest of the evening in Magic Kingdom finishing up the things we hadn't got to do the day before. Sunday, we went to Hollywood Studios, and Monday we were at Epcot before heading home. It was a fun-packed four-day weekend that left us exhausted, but so happy. I want to share with you my favorite Continue Reading
Bachelorette Party Ideas
I always meant to write a post sharing about my bachelorette party, but I just never got around to it for some reason. Now, eight months later I'm finally going to tell you all about it! My maid of honor Aubrey planned my bachelorette party, and I had a fantastic time. She decorated, made food, planned games, bought gifts, and even made something very special for me with the help of my friends. The best part about my party was it didn't include anyone getting drunk. I really wanted to celebrate my singleness in a clean, fun way. No bars, no clubs, no dirty decorations -- that's just not Continue Reading
