Have you been following along with all my holiday series? In the Holiday Cookie series, I've shared recipes for Grasshoppers and Swirl Butter Cookies. Today is Surprise Brownies! The best part about these cookies is that you can make them for all sorts of holidays! I made them last year for Halloween, and now I'm making them for Christmas. The surprise? Oreos! Each brownie has an Oreo inside! I'm using the holiday Oreos (with red creme) inside my Christmas cookies. For Halloween, I used the Oreos with orange filling. You can make them for Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day -- whenever Continue Reading
Holiday Munchies: Garlic Ranch Pretzels
For the holidays, I'm doing several series for ya'll. First, I wrote about my three favorite soups for those cold winter days: potato, vegetable and chili. Second, I'm posting a recipe for holiday cookies every Monday for five weeks -- so far you've seen grasshoppers and swirl butter cookies. My third series is all about the munchies! I love having snack food around for the holidays because its great to nibble on while playing games with family or (in our case this year) for traveling to see family. To start off this snack series, I'm sharing a recipe for garlic ranch pretzels! These babies Continue Reading
Holiday Roundup: Soups
As you may know, I did a three-week series for the holidays where I shared recipes for some delicious soups. Winter is the perfect time to indulge in the comfort food of warm soup. I've created this roundup for all kinds of soups, so you'll have plenty of options for this winter! I share the soups from my holiday series, as well as my other soup recipes ... and I've even included soup recipes from other bloggers! Our First Married Thanksgiving
Thursday was our first Thanksgiving as husband and wife. Even though we were both missing our family, we had a great day together. Let me share with ya'll about it (plus lots of photos!) We watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade -- a tradition for both of us. I made my first Thanksgiving meal! I was a little nervous about it, but it actually turned out really well! I made a three pound turkey breast, mashed potatoes, noodles, green beans, and rolls. Unfortunately, the gravy didn't turn out for some reason. It was OK though because Travis didn't want gravy anyways, it was just for me. Continue Reading
Holiday Cookies: Swirl Butter Cookies
Welcome to my Holiday Cookie Series! I'm sharing some holiday cookie recipes with you every Monday throughout the holidays. If you missed it, last week I shared a chocolate mint cookie called Grasshoppers. But this week, I'm showing you how to make Swirl Butter Cookies! Travis was excited that I was finally making a type of sugar cookie instead of some kind of chocolate cookie! He doesn't like chocolate -- crazy I know, but it means more for me. :) I was really nervous that these cookies wouldn't turn out right. Making the cookies have a swirl within the dough sounded like a failure waiting Continue Reading
The Ultimate Frugal Christmas Guide: Young Children
Christmas is coming! I'm so excited for it! One (out of like a zillion!) of the things that I like about Christmas is the gift giving. I love picking out presents for people, especially when it's something I know they are really going to like. But there are a few people on my list that I just do not know what to get them. I know what this person likes, but I want them to really be excited and grateful for my gift so it's hard to decide. Do you ever have that problem? Some people are just hard to shop for. That's why I teamed up with a few lovely ladies to create a frugal gift guide for the Continue Reading
Chili Mac
It's week three of my Soup Series! So far I've shared potato soup and vegetable soup. Today, I'm sharing a recipe for chili! Here's what you'll need: Hamburger, browned and drained Tomato juice Elbow pasta Chili powder Garlic powder Salt Pepper Chopped tomatoes Chili beans Black beans Tomato paste Start by browning your hamburger. Drain out any grease. This was my least favorite part because I really don't like hamburger, especially hamburger from the grocery store. I come from a family who grows their own cattle and eats their own meat, so grocery store Continue Reading
What to Expect at a Military Ball
Before we start, let me explain that this post is about my experience at my very first military ball. I'm a new Army wife, and I was excited to attend my first ball with my husband. This post is about my experience. I'm sharing it with you for two reasons: to show my family what it was like and to give others who are preparing for their first ball an idea of what to expect. I was really nervous as I prepared for my first ball because I had no idea what to expect. I wasn't good friends with any spouses who could tell me either. I'm sure that each ball is different, but here's an idea of what Continue Reading
Grasshopper Cookies
It's the holiday season! I love me some Thanksgiving and Christmas -- decorating, baking, the music, the festivities, seeing family -- it's the best time of the year! I want to share with you a few holiday cookie recipes for you to bake for your own family, get-togethers with friends or family and/or special events like Christmas parties! I'll be sharing a holiday cookie recipe every Monday for five weeks. Let's get this holiday cookie party started, shall we? Today, Continue Reading
Ways to Fuel the Fire in Your Heart
For the sake of the world, burn like a fire in me. Light a flame in my soul for every eye to see. For the sake of the world, burn like a fire in me. As I sang these lyrics during worship at my church, the words stirred in my heart and God began to speak. As the song ended, I sat down and began writing on my bulletin. Scribbling what I was hearing God whisper to my heart. I didn't want to forget those words, and I knew it needed to be shared with you. Burn like a fire in me. Have you ever started a fire? There are three things needed: a spark or flame, oxygen, and some type of fuel. Continue Reading
Vegetable Soup
One of my favorite meals that my mom would make when I lived at home was roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. Whenever she made that meal you knew two things: we would all sit at the table as a family and we would probably have vegetable soup for supper the next day. Yes, my mama put roast beef in her veggie soup and I am so happy she did. I wasn't much of a meat-eater when I was younger, especially red meats. But roast beef was always a favorite and putting it into vegetable soup was a great way to give me some iron without me noticing! For my first week of my soup series, I shared Continue Reading
Ways to Prepare for a Military Ball
I've only been an Army wife for five months now, so I'm still a complete newbie. I want to put that out there right from the start. I am in no way an expert. With that being said, I was excited to experience my first military ball last weekend. A chance to get all dolled up and be escorted by the best looking man that I'm most proud of in life? Yes, please. But before I could chat during cocktail hour, shake hands with the colonel, or eat up all my chicken, there were a few things I needed to do to prepare. This is a list I've compiled, but not everyone will want to do these things or find Continue Reading
