Being a great hostess is very important to me. I love having people come to visit, and I want to make sure I do whatever I can to make them feel welcome, comfortable, and at home. Oftentimes, it's just about putting yourself in your visitor's place. If you were the guest, what would make you feel more at ease while visiting? Here are the ways I make sure I'm the hostess with the mostest. 10 Tips for Being a Great Hostess 1. Soft, clean towels. When your guests wake up in the morning, they don't want to go chasing down a towel to use after they shower. Instead, keep soft, clean towels Continue Reading
Baked Zucchini Fries
I've sorta been on a health kick lately. I say sorta because I also still like my ice cream. I can't help it. We're supposed to have dairy in our diet anyways, right? So while I haven't stopped eating ice cream, I have tried to start eating more vegetables. Lately, we've had green beans, asparagus, broccoli and now zucchini. I really like zucchini, and there are tons of things you can make with it. Travis and I tried something new for us though -- baked zucchini fries -- and they turned out awesome! They are crunchy but soft on the inside with lots of flavor on the outside. We didn't even Continue Reading
Roasted Broccoli with Garlic
Remember what I said about vegetables in my green bean post? Well, I'm trying to change that a little bit! So prepare yourself for veggie mania! Today, we're talking about broccoli. Yum! I like broccoli! Add garlic and I love broccoli! :) This recipe I'm writing about has a great roasted taste, because, well, the broccoli is roasted. Here's what you'll need: Broccoli (However much you want) Olive oil Salt and pepper Garlic Start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees. I lay down aluminum foil over my baking sheet to make clean up easy. (All I have to do is throw away the Continue Reading
Parmesan Asparagus
I've never liked asparagus. Like. Ever. (Said in T Swift's voice) Asparagus has always equaled gross in my book. Until now! We tried this recipe, and now I actually like it. I think I would like anything with Parmesan on it. I'm one of those people who dumps Parmesan cheese ALL over my pasta to the point where people ask, "Would you like some pasta with that cheese?" So motto of this post: take a yucky veggie and douse it in Parmesan and suddenly it's delectable. Here's what you'll need: Asparagus (Obviously) Water Butter Garlic Salt Pepper Grated Parmesan Continue Reading
Italian Garlic Green Beans
I struggle with sides. Side dishes that is. I can come up with an entree for supper, but I have a hard time figuring out what to make with it. I usually come up with something starchy, like potatoes or pasta. Not the healthiest choices. I usually forget to include a vegetable with our meals. Travis, on the other hand, is great about it! So the other night, I wanted to make sure I included a vegetable with our meal. I decided to try sauteing my favorite veggie, green beans, the way my sister-in-law did once when we visited. They were so good, so I wanted to try it out myself. Here's Continue Reading
Marshmallow Rolls
Mmmmm mmm mmm were these good! I made these scrumptious rolls right before supper was finished cooking, and we ended up eating almost all of them before supper! A lot of people call these resurrection rolls and make them for Easter while telling the story of how Jesus rose from the dead. I remember my mother making these with my brother and I once. But since it isn't anywhere near Easter, I renamed them. And they still taste just as yummy! Here's what you'll need: Butter Crescent roll dough (I used Pillsbury-8 count) Cinnamon and sugar Marshmallows That's not too many Continue Reading
Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken
This is probably going to be the easiest recipe I'll ever write about. And it turns out really good. Travis said it was the best meal I've ever made. Granted, he says that every night after licking his plate clean. Luckily for me I don't have too picky of a husband. Anyways, for this recipe you'll need: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts (I used 5 so we could each eat 2 1/2) Pineapple juice Soy sauce Brown sugar Pasta Sides Teriyaki Noodles (optional) Now I'm going to let you in on a little secret of mine. I use Crock Pot Liners to make clean-up a breeze! Have I told you Continue Reading
Fruit Pops
School has begun! I've seen all kinds of "first day" photos on Facebook. Today, my brother and cousin start classes at college. Yes, summer is almost over. I believe summer lasts through August, and fall doesn't begin until September does. So in these last couple weeks of summer, how better to celebrate than with these easy and tasty fruit pops? Here's what you'll need: Strawberries (a little over 1 cup) Banana (half of one, if that) Honey (not much) Yogurt (1/2 cup) Blender Popsicle maker-things (What are those called?) Start by blending the 1 cup of strawberries Continue Reading
Housewife Hacks: Tips on Laundry, Dishes, & Groceries
I can't say I'm an expert at being a housewife. Not even close. But I am a very clean and organized person. I don't like clutter. I don't like clothes on the floor. And I don't like dirty dishes in the sink. So to make housekeeping a little easier, I've started using some simple tricks that I'd like to share with you. Check Out My Housewife Hacks Laundry Is your husband messy like mine? Travis has always been much more messy than I am. I would walk into the bathroom in the morning having to navigate through an obstacle course of clothing just to get to the toilet! Now that Continue Reading
For when you’re feeling insecure
"Tell me why you love me," I said to my husband. He proceeded to spout off countless reasons he loves me. But his answers didn't comfort me. I was looking for one particular answer that he just happened not to mention this time. And the tears came. It actually had nothing to do with my husband. Nothing to do with his answers or his love for me. I was crying because I was feeling insecure. I was feeling not good enough. I was feeling inadequate. I have no doubts about my husband's love for me. I wasn't feeling insecure because of him. Instead, I was (for whatever reason) beginning to Continue Reading
Dirt Pudding Without Cream Cheese
You wouldn't think a dessert with the word dirt in it would be good. But dirt pudding is not just good, it's great. This has been one of my favorite snacks/desserts since probably second grade! I make this recipe a little different from most. I like the Oreo part best, and I don't like cream cheese at all. I also don't like gummy worms in mine; I think it totally takes away from the wonderfulness of this dessert. So I add extra Oreos and take out the cream cheese altogether. And it still tastes amazing, even without gummy worms. Here's my recipe for dirt pudding without cream Continue Reading
Chicken Pot Pie Casserole
Travis and I have found our favorite meal! Just look at that golden ooey-gooey cheesy garlicy biscuity deliciousness. Yes, it is all of those things and more! This recipe definitely qualifies as comfort food. So let me share the recipe so you can make it yourself and fall in love. First bake 4-6 chicken breasts. Shred the chicken. I put it in my Kitchen Aid mixer to shred. While it was in the mixer, I sprinkled it with the ranch mix (excluding 1/2 tsp to be used for later) plus salt and pepper. Mix the seasonings in and set aside. On medium heat, whisk together the soup, broth and Continue Reading
