Scars come with living. That's what Toby Mac's song says, and it sure is true. I gained quite a few scars within the first month of this year. I have three scars on my abdomen from my appendectomy, and I have multiple scars on my neck from where they put in my central line when I was in the ICU. You can read my Sepsis Survivor story here. Those are the physical scars you can see on my body. They will fade with time and most of them can be hidden by my clothes. Today, I want to talk about the scars that aren't visible on my body -- the emotional and mental scars. I'm talking about anxiety after Continue Reading
Sepsis Survivor: The Recovery
Writing out my story of surviving sepsis has been good for me. Writing is always therapeutic and healing for me, and writing this story out was no exception. I finished all five parts of how it all began and the details of my hospital stay. But once I got home from the hospital, it wasn't like I was suddenly 100% back to normal. I still had a long road of recovery ahead. I'm hoping to share that part of the story within this one post. If you missed the rest of the story, be sure to start at the beginning -- Sepsis Survivor: My Story of Healing (Part I). My Recovery My story left off Continue Reading
Sepsis Survivor: My Story of Healing (Part V)
This is my story of healing -- of the miracle God worked in my life. My reason for writing it out here and sharing it rather than keeping it in a private journal is in hopes of someone who may be going through a similar situation to know they aren't alone. I also believe I am a living testimony to God's healing power, and I want to share my story of healing so He can get all the glory. This story proves that prayer is powerful. That He does indeed hear us when we call out, and He cares. Because this story is long, I've split it up into multiple blog posts. Be sure to start from the beginning Continue Reading

Sepsis Survivor: My Story of Healing (Part II)
Writing my survivor story out is therapeutic for me. It's a way to release and find closure, and having it written out means I can come back to it later and relive it if I need to. I find that when I go through something traumatic, sometimes I need to relive it -- to remember it happened and it makes me who I am. I often go back and read my miscarriage story on the anniversary of it. My reason for writing it out here and sharing it rather than keeping it in a private journal is in hopes of someone who may be going through a similar situation to know they aren't alone. I also believe I am a Continue Reading
Sepsis Survivor: My Story of Healing (Part I)
I've decided to write out the details of my recent medical experience of becoming a sepsis survivor. I'm going to be sharing a lot of details. I don't know if anyone will want to read this, but these blog posts will be more for me. It will be a way for me to work through everything that happened, share my experience, and keep it for future reference. When I go through something traumatic, writing about it helps me. And having it written down where I can go back and relive it for a moment helps me too. It's a way to release and find closure. My story is long, especially if I include a lot of Continue Reading
2019 Word of the Year
I can hardly believe that another year is about to begin. This past year went really quickly in my eyes, but it seems like they always do. For the last five years or so, I have chosen a word (or once two words!) to represent the upcoming year. Before I reveal my word for 2019, let's recap 2018. 2018 -- Change Change was my word for 2018, and I think it was pretty fitting. There were a lot of changes that took place, especially with Travis. He transitioned out of the Army. He started and finished an internship. He began a brand new, very different job, in the civilian world. He also Continue Reading
Recentering My Christmas Priorities on Christ
It has been way too long since I've blogged. Life has gotten busy and this space has been put on the back burner. It's not that I haven't wanted to write, it's not that I don't have any content ideas, it's just hard to make the time to sit down and do it. And the longer I put it off, the easier it is to put it off more. Other things have become more important. I used to say this blog was my baby, but now that I have a human baby (who is actually now a full-on toddler!), this blog is much less of a priority than it used to be. But I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things soon. The Continue Reading
I Am Washed by the Water
Travis and I found a new church right away after moving here to Louisville. We had decided to start as close as we could and work our way out as we tried churches. The first church we tried was just half a mile from our house. It turns out that we loved it, pretty much immediately. It was exactly what we were looking for. So rather than waste our time trying other churches, we decided to start getting plugged into this church right away. We've been going there for around five months now and we knew we wanted to become members so that we could start getting more involved with serving. This Continue Reading
Eyes Like Doves
We have now lived in Louisville for about six weeks or so. For whatever reason, this has been feeling like our hardest move yet. Maybe it's because we are no longer in the military community or we have a toddler this time. We haven't put a lot of our decorations or pictures up because we want to paint first, and I think that's making it feel like it's not home quite yet. I was feeling down and discouraged about this, plus lonely since I don't really have any friends here yet. Then we found a leak in our basement. A leak that must have been there since we moved in and we hadn't noticed Continue Reading
Where You Lead I Will Follow
We have some exciting news to share. My husband has been offered a job! Oh, and he accepted it! Travis has been working so hard to make our transition away from the military go smoothly. I know that it came with a lot of stress and pressure, but I couldn't be more proud of him for all the work he put in. He accepted a position within the Experienced Officer Development Program at GE Appliances. He will get to work in a few different positions within their company, which is really going to help him see what he enjoys most. So you may be wondering where we'll be moving. GE Appliances is located Continue Reading
