When I wrote this post, I told you I was right in the midst of it -- in the hard, in the valley. Little did I know I still had farther to fall. I was honest and shared with you that I was trying not to drown. I felt like the waves kept breaking over me, and I was weak from trying to hold my head above the water. I told you I was praying that I would become a stronger swimmer. And I encouraged you that we will not drown and we will survive. I told you we would be stronger. But what happens if in the midst of that prayer to be a stronger swimmer, a tsunami hits? What if you feel more Continue Reading
When You Don’t Feel Loved
I'm a woman. In case you didn't know. I've been learning a lot about myself as a woman lately. Things that I knew deep down about myself, but I didn't realize I am that way because of the very fact that I am woman. While reading The Language of Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs I learned that I need love. I've always longed for love, for the feeling of being loved. But now I realize it's a part of the nature of woman. We all want to feel loved. When reading The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman I learned that we all (men and women) have love tanks in a sense. Sometimes, our Continue Reading

Ways to Fight Depression
Remember when I told you I was trying not to drown? Well, the truth is I was trying not to sink. I was trying not to sink into depression. I thought of those of you out there who read that post and felt it down in your bones. The ones who were also trying not to sink. And then I thought of those of you who are already sinking. So I reached out to my fellow blogging friends, asking if anyone has dealt with depression. I asked them if they were willing to talk to me about it. I was blown away by the number of people who responded. Friends, we are not alone in our sinking. So many out there Continue Reading
When you’re right in the midst of it
As bloggers, writers, and Christians in general, we tend to tell our stories once we have a happy ending. We tell how hard it was and how God got us through. We got to the other side, found our way through the valley. We're basking in the sunshine on top of the mountain. Those are inspiring and encouraging stories, and I've got my fair share of them. But today, I don't have one of those stories to share. Today, I'm just going to be totally honest in this post. I'm right in the midst of it. In the hard. In the struggle. In the valley. This past month has been difficult, and it Continue Reading
Great Books for Christian Single Women
Even though it has been awhile, I do remember my single days -- trying to find contentment and confidence in myself (something I'm still working on) while I waited for Mr. Right to come along. There were times where I was completely happy with my singleness, and times where I loathed it. One thing that really helped me during those difficult times of singleness was reading a good book, specifically one that understood where I was and encouraged me in those times of waiting. Perhaps you are single. Or maybe you are looking for a gift for a friend who's single. Either way, these are my Continue Reading

Dwelling in Beulah Land
I grew up in a small country church where we sing from hymnals every Sunday. I have a few favorites -- hymns I've memorized the lyrics to from singing them so much. The ones that I know exactly what page they are on, so when the song leader tells us what page to turn to I get a smile on my face. One of my all-time favorite hymns to sing at church is Dwelling in Beulah Land. Page 549 in my church's hymnal. :) If you've heard this song before, you know it is upbeat. I think that's one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy it so much -- it's happy and uplifting. Here are the lyrics. Far away Continue Reading
The Best Thing I Did Before Moving into my Home
When Travis and I bought our house, we moved all our stuff in but we didn't live there. We spent a few days pulling up all the carpet and replacing some light fixtures while staying with my parents down the road. Then we spent a week visiting his family in northern Indiana. After Travis left for South Korea, I stayed with my parents again for a couple weeks while we worked on the house. We had to get the water working and install a shower before I wanted to move in. There was one other important thing I wanted to do before moving in. Pray. I have to admit I was very nervous about moving Continue Reading
5 Encouraging Instagram Accounts
Instagram is one of my all-time favorite social media platforms. I love seeing the words put to photos, and I love sharing with others. I especially love following accounts that bring me encouragement and remind me to see the sunshine. Those accounts lift me up like a giant hot air balloon, and sometimes in life we really need something to lift us -- even if it's just a few special words connected to a beautiful photo. I wanted to share those accounts with you, so you can follow along too. Here we go! She Reads Truth -- An online community of women who study God's Word together Continue Reading
Top 5 Christian Books
One of my favorite hobbies is reading. I love laying on my bed listening to the rain pound the windows while I take in the words of some great author. I love laying out by the pool, soaking in the rays and turning the pages of some great book. I love having my toes in the sand, listening to the waves of the ocean while I drift away into some other world. I like reading in bed. I like reading on the couch. I like reading at the gym while I ride the bicycle machine. I like reading under trees. I like reading on park benches. My bookshelves are packed full, and yet I want more books. I like Continue Reading
My Marriage Makes Me Feel Ugly
I always thought I was a nice person. Kind. Thoughtful. Great at planning and organizing. I would have definitely described myself as a good Christian girl. I didn't think of myself as selfish. Not at all. Until I got married. In almost 20 months of marriage, I've learned a lot about my husband -- as I imagined I would. But I never realized how much I would learn about myself. One of the best wedding gifts God gave you was a full-length mirror called your spouse. Had there been a card attached, it would have said, "Here's to helping you discover what you're really like!" - Gary and Continue Reading
