The Best Tool for PCS Season

PCS season is upon us. Before we know it, military families will begin moving all over the country and world. Where are you headed? Travis and I will be PCSing (that means moving for you civilians out there) in July, but we aren't announcing yet where we are going. We want to make sure it's official first. Although, is anything ever a for sure in the military? As soon as you find out your PCSing, everyone begins to research about the new area. We want to find the best house or apartment for our families. We have to decide whether to live on or off post. We want to know things about Continue Reading

On Being an Older Enlisted Spouse

On Being an Older Enlisted Spouse

Hello friends. I'll be taking a little blogging break, so I've gathered some blogging friends to guest post here. I wouldn't want ya'll to not have anything to read! My first guest post comes from Julie at Soldier's Wife, Crazy Life. I was 26 years old when my husband re-joined the Army. He went in as an E3 at age 30. A few months later, he promoted to an E4 and that is how he spent the rest of his time as an active duty soldier. A lot of people join the military at a younger age, 18-20 years old. Their spouses are young too. They work their way through the ranks and can make it to E5 Continue Reading

“Blue Without You” Care Package

“Blue Without You” Care Package

I had so much fun making a baseball-themed care package and a Fourth of July care package for Travis while he lives in South Korea. I've been looking forward to the next box I could send. I definitely miss Travis -- like a lot. So this care package seemed perfect. I really have been feeling blue without my hubby! When you open the box, it says "I'm so BLUE ... without YOU!" It's really simple to decorate and fill this box. I used blue scrapbook paper to cover the box and white sticker letters for the phrase. I included two blue ribbon bows to add a little something extra and fun to the Continue Reading

Uplifting & Strengthening Playlist to Overcome Deployment

This is my first time away from Travis for so long. It's been hard for sure. Although, this isn't technically a deployment -- the separation and lack of communication makes it feel like one sometimes. One of the ways I am getting through these months is through uplifting and strengthening music. Listening to certain music can change my mood and attitude. I think this playlist for deployment can help you overcome and feel strong. This list of more than 60 songs has many different genres of music, so you are sure to find something you like! Add these songs to your playlist for Continue Reading

Fourth of July Care Package

Every day is Independence Day in America. But we celebrate it on July 4th with barbecues, boating, homemade ice cream, fireworks, and a whole lot of red, white, and blue. As far as I can remember, Travis and I have only spent one or maybe two of these holidays together. Knowing we wouldn't be together this year, I wanted to send him something special for one of his favorite holidays. I put together a Fourth of July Care Package complete with everything red, white, and blue. Here's what was in his care package and other ideas for your own care package! I loved decorating this box Continue Reading

Tips for a Non-DITY PCS

If you are an avid reader of this blog, then you know we recently experienced our first non-DITY PCS. We were in Georgia, but had the Army move Travis' things to Korea and my things to Indiana. I was so nervous about how it would all go, but thankfully it went smoothly. We learned a lot in our first PCS, and I wanted to share those things with anyone else who may have just gotten orders. Today, I'm sharing tips for a non-DITY PCS over at Jo, My Gosh. Head over to her blog to see my PCS advice, and be sure to read some of her other posts as well. She has some great tips and resources for Continue Reading

Baseball Themed Care Package

Baseball Themed Care Package

Travis and I are celebrating our second wedding anniversary this month. Of course, we are celebrating while being 7,000 miles apart, which can make it a little tricky. This year, I wanted to put my care package skills to the test and create something awesome for Travis to open as an anniversary gift. My husband loves baseball. He's played the game since he was a kid, and he loves to watch it too. He's on a post-wide softball team in Korea, and I have no doubt that someday he will be a baseball coach for our own children. So a baseball themed care package was a perfect fit for my man. I Continue Reading

Ways to Bless a Military Spouse

Looking for ideas on how to show kindness to a military spouse? Well, you've come to the right place. As a military spouse myself, I have always been so thankful to those friends, family, and even strangers who have blessed me, especially when my husband is away. It means so much to know we are supported and cared for. Some of these ideas are my own, and I've asked other military spouses to chime in with their ideas too. Here are 10 ways to bless a military spouse. 1. Invite me over. It can be for dinner or just to watch TV and hang out -- I just want some company. Especially Continue Reading

6 Things I Learned as a New Military Spouse

I've been married for almost two years to a man in the military. Right after our honeymoon, I moved in with my husband who was stationed in Georgia at the time. Moving near a military base, spending time there, and listening to a husband talk about his job made me learn so much about military life. As an Army girlfriend, I really had no idea about so many of the things I know about now. Today, I'm sharing the six things I've learned as a new military spouse. 1. Revelry & Retreat Every morning, the American flag is lifted and Revelry is played over speakers throughout the Continue Reading

Officers’ Housing at Camp Walker

Officers’ Housing at Camp Walker

Not long after Travis got his orders to the Republic of Korea, we began wondering what the housing situation was like. Would they have room for him on post? Would he need to find his own place off post? What does the housing there look like? What types of furniture do they provide? We had so many questions. We tried researching online but didn't find much. We tried asking others who had gone before but no one had been at Camp Walker. We even tried calling and emailing the housing department at Camp Walker, but they never responded. When you are about to move to the other side of the Continue Reading
