Things To Do When Hubby Is Away
As a military family, there are going to be many weeks or months or years where my husband is away. This week my husband has been in the field for training. Next month, he'll be gone a little longer. The month after that he'll be gone longer still. And a few months from now, he'll be gone for a whole month. I just keep telling myself that's nothing -- this isn't a deployment. But since we haven't been through a deployment yet, this kind of sucks. No matter how long your husband will be gone, it's totally OK to wear one of his shirts, eat cereal for supper, and wallow a little in your Continue Reading
What to Expect at a Military Ball
Before we start, let me explain that this post is about my experience at my very first military ball. I'm a new Army wife, and I was excited to attend my first ball with my husband. This post is about my experience. I'm sharing it with you for two reasons: to show my family what it was like and to give others who are preparing for their first ball an idea of what to expect. I'm sure that each ball is different, but here's an idea of what Continue Reading

With that being said, I was excited to experience my first military ball last weekend. A chance to get all dolled up and be escorted by the best looking man that I'm most proud of in life? Yes, please. But before I could chat during cocktail hour, shake hands with the colonel, or eat up all my chicken, there were a few things I needed to do to prepare. This is a list I've compiled, but not everyone will want to do these things or find Continue Reading
A Challenge: Refuse to Shut Down
Three minutes. That's how long it usually takes for my husband and I to drive from our house to post. Today, however, it took us over an hour to get my husband, who's an officer in the Army, to work. Traffic was backed up for miles to enter the main gate because so many other gates were closed due to the government shutdown. Inconvenience. So far, the government shutdown only affects me by inconvenience. But I realize that for others, it can have much scarier effects. Some people can't work. Some people aren't being paid. And because of that, those people may be tempted to shut down Continue Reading
