For the longest time, I have dreamed of giving my girls a rainbow playroom. The room we used for a playroom was painted purple when we bought the house. You'd think as a mom of girls, a purple playroom would be nice. However, the purple made the room pretty dark (the room is in the basement with no windows, so it's hard to get good lighting). The walls also were pretty scuffed up and needed a fresh coat of paint. So I decided to use the money I got for Christmas to tackle this playroom project I'd been dreaming of. I wanted to do a rainbow-inspired playroom for two reasons. First of all, it's Continue Reading
Kentucky Rainbow House: One Year Update
It has officially been one year since we moved here to Louisville. We closed on this house in March of 2018 and moved in that April. Moving is always a hard task, but little did we realize that the real work would begin after we were moved in! I lovingly call this house the rainbow house because when we moved in every room was painted a different color of the rainbow. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open concept but each one was painted green, yellow, and orange. The guest room was a Pepto-Bismol pink. Raylee's room was bright orange. The master bedroom was blue. Downstairs Continue Reading
Farmhouse Hutch Makeover
Since moving into our new house, we have so much more space than we used to. We have two living rooms! All of the furniture we already had went down into the basement living area, which left our main living room on the first floor completely empty. We plan to just get furniture pieces as we see them and can get a good deal on them. One day, to get out of the heat of the summer yet out of the house, Raylee and I walked the lanes at a local Peddler's Mall. Each booth is filled with furniture, household items, clothes, books, and who knows what all! There's lots to see. While there, I found an Continue Reading
Making Windows Private
Travis and I recently bought our first home that we will live in together. (Remember how we have bought a home before but only I lived in it and since we've sold it?) Anyways, with buying a house comes a lot of responsibility. Unless you build or buy a home brand new, there are going to be things you'll want to fix or update or change to match your preferences. I didn't realize quite how much work we'd want to do on this house. I knew we'd want to paint, and I was hoping we could get new floors ... but now that we've lived here awhile, we have a huge list of to-dos. The good news is, we have Continue Reading
Deep Cleaning a New Home
Our little family recently bought a new home and have moved to a new state. After closing, but before unloading all the boxes of our household goods, one important thing needed to be done. Deep cleaning. The family that moved out of this home obviously didn't do any cleaning before they left -- although, I was shocked at how clean the microwave was when we moved in. Travis and I have always rented due to the frequent moves that come with military life. That means we have never had to clean before moving in. This was different. We took on the task ourselves and spent one weekend cleaning the Continue Reading
Purple and Grey Nursery
When we found out we were having a girl at our baseball-themed gender reveal party, I knew exactly how I wanted to decorate the nursery. I've never been a pink kind of girl. Purple has always been my favorite color, so I wanted to do a purple and grey nursery. I wanted to use all different shades of purple with lots of different patterns. Simple. Cute. Girly. We started by taking out all the furniture in my home office and painting the walls grey. It turns out grey is a hard color to find. The first coat looked blue and Travis repainted the whole thing until it finally looked grey. Then we Continue Reading
Bedroom Reveal
I'm so excited to announce that my bedroom is finished! Be sure to check out the bedroom before and during in one of my previous posts. A lot of work was done to this room, and now that is complete I seriously love it! It is exactly what I wanted. A big huge thanks goes out to my dad, grandpa, and uncle who put in countless hours of work for me. A big thanks to my brother and his fiance for helping me take the closet doors off, which took forever. And another thank you goes to my husband who helped me paint the closet doors, put them back on (sorta), and hang up my wall art. Please don't Continue Reading
Closet Door Makeover
While Travis was home for a few weeks, I recruited him to help me paint my closet doors so I could finish the bedroom. The doors started out as wood, but I wanted a closet door makeover! I wanted to paint the doors a deep color as an accent for the white-walled room. Here's a before shot of the whole room, complete with one of the closet doors showing. We set the closet doors up one-by-one on this sawhorse. I wiped them down with a rag to make sure there was no remaining dry wall dust! We decided to use our paint sprayer for this project because we knew it would go faster! We were Continue Reading
How to Clean Drywall Dust
My bedroom renovation included drywall. And drywall means dust. A lot of it. Like piles of dust covering everything. I walked into my room after the drywall was complete and the sanding was finished. I was overwhelmed by the amount of dust. And I seriously was not sure how to clean it. Along the way, I learned some things. Tips for Cleaning Drywall Dust While cleaning, be sure to wear a mask over your nose and mouth. Breathing in the dust is not good for you. Be sure to keep the room closed off from other rooms or you'll have dust everywhere. Keep registers or vents closed or keep air Continue Reading
Bedroom Renovation
Slowly but surely. That seems to be how my bedroom renovation is coming along. It started out with a tan wallpaper that had small daisies on it. It had nothing but a light bulb for a light fixture. The ceiling was made up of squares that seemed to have some mildew on them. The room wasn't awful, but it wasn't what I wanted. I pictured it much different. I really wanted to paint this room. I began taking the wallpaper off, only to realize there were SIX layers of wallpaper -- all different colors and patterns. One of the wallpaper patterns was of men on horses, I assume fox Continue Reading
Basement Reveal
Basements. I'm glad I have one because, well, tornadoes. But I got to tell ya, my basement was down right scary. There was one single light bulb, a cement floor, crumbling stone walls, and wires going all over the place. I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been used as a torture chamber at some point. So when I found out that the washer and dryer hook ups were in the basement and that was my only option if I wanted to be able to do laundry in my own home, well, I was not looking forward to it. I knew I needed to brighten up the place or I would never want to do laundry, my clothes would Continue Reading
Front Porch Reveal
Guys, I am SO excited about this room. It is my favorite room in my whole house. I love how it turned out, and it really didn't take much work. Check out the before photos. How nasty is that carpet? And those curtains were not working for me. Let's take a closer look. I took down the curtains and cleaned around all the windows. There wasn't anything I could do with the carpet. I thought about pulling it up, but the cement underneath had been painted at one point and it was going to need a lot of work. So instead, I decided to cover the carpet with one big rug. But here's the thing -- Continue Reading
