9 Tools Needed to be a Freelance Writer

9 Tools Needed to be a Freelance Writer

When I'm not blogging or baking brownies or doing laundry or fixing supper for my man, I'm writing. Freelance writing to be exact. I've been a freelance writer for a couple years now. I've worked with magazines, colleges, newspapers, and the like. Currently, I am freelance writing for a newspaper -- in charge of their features section every week -- and a quarterly magazine. When I tell people I'm a freelance writer, usually everyone thinks it's so cool. And that's because it is. I get to work from home, make my own schedule, use my degree, and do the thing I love doing -- write -- all the Continue Reading

St. Patty’s Puddin’ Parfaits

St. Patrick's Day isn't a holiday I've ever celebrated. But when it means eating green Oreos and pudding, I'm happy to start! These little cups of goodness are such a yummy dessert perfect for this Irish holiday. Here's what you'll need: Oreos (regular or mint) Vanilla pudding Green food coloring Whipped cream Shamrock or green sprinkles Crush up the Oreos in a Ziploc bag. You can use Mint Oreos if you want a mint flavor. Make the pudding like normal using milk. Add in green food coloring. I let the pudding set up in the refrigerator. Using small glasses, layer the Oreos, Continue Reading

How to Prevent Illness in Your Home

"I think I might be getting sick," my husband said to me, just two days before Valentine's Day. It would be our first Valentine's Day together -- physically together on a date. The first Valentine's Day when we were "talking" and interested in each other was on a Monday and I had a night class. We couldn't go out. The second one, we were broke up. :( And last year, he was living in Georgia while I was living in Indiana. So when I heard him say he might be getting sick, I was not about to let that happen. We were going on this date! The next morning, I went into prevent-sickness Continue Reading

Crock Pot Chex Mix

Crock Pot Chex Mix

One of my all time favorite snacks to munch on is chex mix. Homemade chex mix is the best. I remember sitting in a big recliner chair at my great grandma's with a giant tub of her homemade chex mix in my lap. I sat there munching away while the adults played a game -- and it was pure happiness. I'm using a crock pot for this recipe, so hopefully it will be even easier! Here's what you'll need: Corn Chex cereal Rice Chex cereal Wheat Chex cereal Pretzel sticks Peanuts Cheerios Butter Worcestershire sauce Garlic powder Onion powder Pour all the cereals, pretzels Continue Reading
