I was 21 when I finally tried salmon for the first time. Of course, Travis is the one who got me to try it. I didn't think I liked any seafood except shrimp at the time. Turns out, I love all sorts of seafood and salmon is my favorite fish of all time. You can ask my friends, I seriously order salmon at every restaurant that offers it! My sister-in-law made me salmon patties once, and I was in love. I used her recipe and a recipe I found online, mashed them together, and created my own delicious salmon patties. I love making them because 1) they are easy to make, 2) they are delicious, and Continue Reading
How to Update Archive Posts
I began blogging at Seeing Sunshine around four years ago, and if you looked back at some of my very first posts (now known as archive posts) you might not recognize that it's me writing. Each year, I have gotten better at this blogging thing. I've learned a ton about good content, easy-to-read formatting, and eye-catching graphics, and I've grown so much as a blogger. As bloggers, we should constantly be improving, growing, and strengthening our blogging skills. Our spaces on the internet should keep looking better and better as the months and years go on. But what about all those posts Continue Reading
2 Ways to Monetize Your Blog as a Beginner
I had my blog up and running for at least a year before I began to monetize it. But it's honestly never too soon to start. There are two main ways to monetize a blog that are perfect for beginners -- whether a monetizing beginner or a blogging beginner. What I love about these two ways to monetize is that you can get passive income. By that I mean you do a little work at the beginning and then sit back and watch the pennies roll in. I say pennies because I want you to know this is not a get-rich-quick method. I know very very few people -- actually none -- who suddenly made a lot of Continue Reading
How to Use CoSchedule
I posted a link to my latest blog post to Facebook. With almost 1,000 Facebook followers, you would think many of them would see it, a percentage of those people would engage with the post by liking or commenting, and a smaller percentage would click the link. But here I sit, waiting for anyone to even see that post. Facebook tells me that even though I have almost 1,000 followers, only 25 people have seen that post. As bloggers and business people, we know that Facebook reach is low. It makes sense -- they want us to pay for those views by boosting our posts. Most of us bloggers like to Continue Reading
Working as a Virtual Assistant
Many people have asked me how I make money on my blog. In all honesty, I don't make a ton of money from my blog ... yet! I have used affiliate links for awhile, but I barely make any money off of them. I only began monetizing my blog seriously in just the past month. I'll be writing a post soon about it. Until then, I want to share how I have been making money. And that's by being a virtual assistant. When people ask me what I do, very few know what a virtual assistant is. It's not a well-known job but I believe soon it will be. With so many people now working from home thanks to technology Continue Reading
Fried Cinnamon Bananas
I love dessert. It's safe to say I'm obsessed and addicted to dessert. So when I can find a dessert that's actually pretty good for you, well, it's a winner! Bananas are full of potassium, and they also have calcium and Vitamin A. Cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, and it's said to reduce the risk of heart disease. Put the two together and you've got one healthy dessert, not to mention a great tasting one too! I made this recipe as a snack for Travis and I one Sunday, but we both agreed it would taste amazing on top of ice cream for a full on dessert. Continue Reading

Cajun Chicken & Veggies
We have a new favorite meal! I make a ton of this cajun chicken & veggies because we both love to eat a lot of it, and Travis loves to take it in his lunch the next week. I love how flavorful the dish is. It's a got a small kick to it too, but nothing you can't handle. My favorite part of this meal is how easy it is to make. I don't have to do any planning or a ton of prepping other than chopping a few veggies. It means its easy to make as a last minute meal when I suddenly realize it's suppertime and there's nothing in the crock pot! Try this Cajun Chicken Dish Here's what you'll Continue Reading

Reader Survey 2016
The best way to improve my blog is to deliver the type of content you want to read. But how can I know what kind of posts you enjoy reading unless I know more about you. That's why today I'm asking you to take a survey for me so that I can get to know you better. Just pretend we are sitting down in a cute cafe together and I'm just nonchalantly asking you questions about yourself while you sip your coffee or tea or hot chocolate -- see, I don't even know which you'd be drinking! This survey is for anyone who reads my blog. So if you are reading this, I'd love for you to take it. Even if you Continue Reading

I've shared the six steps you should take before even buying a domain, and I've also shared the next steps you should take when starting a blog. One of the best parts of having a self-hosted Wordpress website is having access to thousands of tools to make blogging easier. These tools are called plugins. You install the plugins on your website and then customize them to fit what you want. A lot of things you see on this blog are actually plugins I've installed. For instance, see that box at the beginning of this post? The one that Continue Reading
