Our holiday cookies series is coming to an end. Have you tried any of my cookie recipes? My favorite recipe is Swirl Butter Cookies -- I could eat those all day! Today, I'm sharing Snowflake Oreos! These cookies are so easy, probably because half the cookie is already made thanks to Nabisco. Here's what you'll need: Oreos White chocolate chips Decorating Gel Begin by melting the chocolate chips in the microwave at 15 second intervals. Stir between each heating until the chocolate is completely melted. It usually take one minute, but you have to do it in intervals or the chocolate Continue Reading
Crock Pot Chex Mix
One of my all time favorite snacks to munch on is chex mix. Homemade chex mix is the best. I remember sitting in a big recliner chair at my great grandma's with a giant tub of her homemade chex mix in my lap. I sat there munching away while the adults played a game -- and it was pure happiness. I'm using a crock pot for this recipe, so hopefully it will be even easier! Here's what you'll need: Corn Chex cereal Rice Chex cereal Wheat Chex cereal Pretzel sticks Peanuts Cheerios Butter Worcestershire sauce Garlic powder Onion powder Pour all the cereals, pretzels Continue Reading
Holiday Cookies: Christmas Stars
I've made these holiday treats several times because they are one of my mom's favorites. They are simple to make and look so dainty and sweet -- perfect for a holiday party. Here's what you'll need: Pie dough (refrigerated and thawed) Hershey's Kisses (I used Hugs, but you can use whichever you like best!) Egg white Sugar Powdered sugar Roll the pie dough out on your lightly floured table. You can make your own dough, but I buy the pre-made kind to make it easier. Place a kiss on the dough, and cut a circle around it. You want the circle to be about 2.5 inches around the Continue Reading
Holiday Munchies: Goldfish Snack Mix
The holidays are a time of playing games and bonding as a family, and everybody knows all that quality time makes you hungry. I love having munchies around to snack on during a great game of canasta. Not to mention snacks for traveling and the fun New Year's Eve party. That's why I'm doing a series called Holiday Munchies. Last week in the series, I shared a Garlic Ranch Pretzels recipe. But ya'll know how much I love goldfish (the snack not the kind that actually swims!), so this week I'm sharing a Goldfish Snack Mix with you. These little fishies have a great flavor! And even though they Continue Reading
Holiday Cookies: Surprise Brownies
Have you been following along with all my holiday series? In the Holiday Cookie series, I've shared recipes for Grasshoppers and Swirl Butter Cookies. Today is Surprise Brownies! The best part about these cookies is that you can make them for all sorts of holidays! I made them last year for Halloween, and now I'm making them for Christmas. The surprise? Oreos! Each brownie has an Oreo inside! I'm using the holiday Oreos (with red creme) inside my Christmas cookies. For Halloween, I used the Oreos with orange filling. You can make them for Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day -- whenever Continue Reading
Holiday Munchies: Garlic Ranch Pretzels
For the holidays, I'm doing several series for ya'll. First, I wrote about my three favorite soups for those cold winter days: potato, vegetable and chili. Second, I'm posting a recipe for holiday cookies every Monday for five weeks -- so far you've seen grasshoppers and swirl butter cookies. My third series is all about the munchies! I love having snack food around for the holidays because its great to nibble on while playing games with family or (in our case this year) for traveling to see family. To start off this snack series, I'm sharing a recipe for garlic ranch pretzels! These babies Continue Reading
Holiday Cookies: Swirl Butter Cookies
Welcome to my Holiday Cookie Series! I'm sharing some holiday cookie recipes with you every Monday throughout the holidays. If you missed it, last week I shared a chocolate mint cookie called Grasshoppers. But this week, I'm showing you how to make Swirl Butter Cookies! Travis was excited that I was finally making a type of sugar cookie instead of some kind of chocolate cookie! He doesn't like chocolate -- crazy I know, but it means more for me. :) I was really nervous that these cookies wouldn't turn out right. Making the cookies have a swirl within the dough sounded like a failure waiting Continue Reading
Chili Mac
It's week three of my Soup Series! So far I've shared potato soup and vegetable soup. Today, I'm sharing a recipe for chili! Here's what you'll need: Hamburger, browned and drained Tomato juice Elbow pasta Chili powder Garlic powder Salt Pepper Chopped tomatoes Chili beans Black beans Tomato paste Start by browning your hamburger. Drain out any grease. This was my least favorite part because I really don't like hamburger, especially hamburger from the grocery store. I come from a family who grows their own cattle and eats their own meat, so grocery store Continue Reading
Grasshopper Cookies
It's the holiday season! I love me some Thanksgiving and Christmas -- decorating, baking, the music, the festivities, seeing family -- it's the best time of the year! For this holiday season, I'm doing a series on holiday cookies. Because not only do I love the holidays, but I love cookies! I want to share with you a few holiday cookie recipes for you to bake for your own family, get-togethers with friends or family and/or special events like Christmas parties! I'll be sharing a holiday cookie recipe every Monday for five weeks. Let's get this holiday cookie party started, shall we? Today, Continue Reading
Vegetable Soup
One of my favorite meals that my mom would make when I lived at home was roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy. Whenever she made that meal you knew two things: we would all sit at the table as a family and we would probably have vegetable soup for supper the next day. Yes, my mama put roast beef in her veggie soup and I am so happy she did. I wasn't much of a meat-eater when I was younger, especially red meats. But roast beef was always a favorite and putting it into vegetable soup was a great way to give me some iron without me noticing! For my first week of my soup series, I shared Continue Reading
Creamy Chicken N’ Rice
I love easy recipes. I love slow cooker recipes. This chicken n' rice dish is both. And it's delicious and creamy, warm comfort food -- perfect for fall or winter. Every time I've made this recipe, my husband goes on and on about how good it is and then says, "Have you made this before?" I've made it at least three times and each time he asks if it's new! :) Here's what you'll need: Chicken, defrosted Chicken broth Cream of mushroom soup Knorr chicken rice mix First, defrost your chicken. Since it's just me and my husband, I use four chicken breast tenderloins. Continue Reading
Hearty Potato Soup
Soup Series! For three Wednesdays in a row, I will be posting a recipe for one of my favorite soups. This week is all about the potatoes! I love potato soup so much. One of my favorite recipes comes from my mother-in-law who is a fantastic cook! With fall in full swing and winter just around the corner, it's the perfect time for the warm comfort of potato soup. Here's what you'll need: Potatoes (obviously!) Carrots Celery Onion Butter Milk Flour Salt Pepper (Remember to wash your produce before you start cutting.) At first, there is a lot of chopping. Peel Continue Reading
