Christmas Shortbread Bars

Ingredients
  • Shortbread
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4½ cups flour
  • Toppings
  • 2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tsp shortening
  • peppermint candy pieces
  • Christmas sprinkles
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar
  3. Add in the eggs and vanilla, mix
  4. Add in salt
  5. Add the flour one cup at a time while mixing
  6. Roll the dough into a ball, split in half
  7. Roll the dough onto two baking sheets lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray
  8. Roll out the dough into even and thick rectangles on each sheet
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
  10. Let the shortbread cool completely
  11. Use a pizza cutter to cut the shortbread into bars
  12. Melt the chocolate and shortening together
  13. Spread chocolate over the bars evenly
  14. Sprinkle bars with peppermint candy pieces and sprinkles
