I can hardly believe that another year is about to begin. This past year went really quickly in my eyes, but it seems like they always do. For the last five years or so, I have chosen a word (or once two words!) to represent the upcoming year. Before I reveal my word for 2019, let's recap 2018. 2018 -- Change Change was my word for 2018, and I think it was pretty fitting. There were a lot of changes that took place, especially with Travis. He transitioned out of the Army. He started and finished an internship. He began a brand new, very different job, in the civilian world. He also Continue Reading
Construction Zone
It was 2011 and I was driving back to my college apartment for the last time as a student. My best friends were in the car with me as we listened to "Who Knows Who Cares" by Local Natives. I began to merge onto the 465 exit when the song sang, "Is my life about to change?" The words hit me as I turned the steering wheel just slightly to make the car follow the curve of the road. The road was completely different than what it used to be. Dirt and machinery were everywhere. They were building a new and better highway. I looked around at the changes taking place on the road and realized my Continue Reading
Nothing is Official in the Military
When we announced we would no longer be moving to New York but instead would be staying here in Missouri, everyone kept asking if it was official. My response was always, "as official as it can be." You see, in the military nothing is ever official. Even after you receive orders, they can still change. In fact, I have even heard stories of people who have moved to their new duty station, started unpacking, and within two weeks their orders had been canceled. They had to move again. If there's one thing you'll learn from military life it's to be flexible. Things will change. A Continue Reading
Tips for Installing a Ceiling Fan
We are slowly changing things in my "new" house. One of the biggest changes we made that really made a difference in how the house looked was pulling up the carpet and cleaning the original hardwood floors. Now, we've moved from the floor to the ceiling. We have been slowly installing new light fixtures in each room -- and it is making a big difference in what the house looks like! We aren't finished with all of them, but I wanted to show you some of the changes. (This post contains a few affiliate links. Check out my full disclosure policy here.) The very first light we changed was in the Continue Reading
Word of the Year: 2013
For the past couple years, I have been choosing a word to represent my new year rather than making resolutions. Last year, I chose the word "purpose" for 2012. I wanted to put purpose into everything I did. Now looking back on 2012, I believe my word was actually "healing." I spent most of that year being healed by God, having my heart mended. And once I was healed, I received great restoration and joy. For 2013, I've pondered over several words such as change, adventure, joy and journey. All of which seem to describe what 2013 will probably be filled with. But I decided not to go with any Continue Reading
