Travis and I have now lived on or near four military bases -- Fort Stewart, Camp Henry, Fort Leonard Wood, and now Fort Campbell. Over the years, we've began to notice similarities. They all have their differences of course. Fort Campbell doesn't have giant live oak trees, but Fort Stewart didn't have beautiful fall colors. But there are a few things that they all seem to have in common. Things that give it away that you are near a military base. That's why Travis and I came up with this fun list! You Know You Live Near a Military Base When... You are wondering if you just heard thunder Continue Reading
A Challenge: Refuse to Shut Down
Three minutes. That's how long it usually takes for my husband and I to drive from our house to post. Today, however, it took us over an hour to get my husband, who's an officer in the Army, to work. Traffic was backed up for miles to enter the main gate because so many other gates were closed due to the government shutdown. Inconvenience. I'm not a fitness master. I'm not in great shape. But I'm stronger than I was yesterday. As long as I'm keeping up with my workout each day, I'm always stronger than the day before. I'm improving. Slowly. But I am. When I get home after my workout, I either shower or eat depending on how hungry I am. I usually get home from the gym close to noon, so it's lunch time. The worst thing to do would be to open Continue Reading
Strawberry Oatmeal Smoothie
I'm proud to say I've been going to the gym on post to work out every day (well, not on weekends, but those don't count, right?) I usually get home right at lunch time, and I'm starving! I always want something healthy like fruits and veggies -- working out makes me want to eat healthier for some reason. Maybe because I don't want to cancel out all the work I just put in. Anyways, today I made a smoothie. Smoothies are usually pretty good for you and they are simple to make. This strawberry oatmeal smoothie had a tasty flavor and was filling. It was a great post-workout Continue Reading
